Thanks! I had a great teacher.
What is your opinion on the Chambers Kit? You made a beautiful rifle out of it. So many people on the forum have nothing but negative thing to say about kits? I have only made one, 15 yrs ago, a Lyman Pl

ains Rifle in .50. It turned out perfectly IMHO and it shoots quite well, and I am certain it is not considered a "high" end kit, but I had zero problems with it. Please give me your opinion on the chambers kit, because it is obvious you have the skill to get the most out of a kit! Lyman on the top.

Thank you!!
My opinion on a Chambers kit is probably the same as anyone that has built one. The parts are top notch. The Lock is amazing. The Chambers folks are great! It's "builders" parts kit, it's not a kit that just fits together like a shelf you bought at IKEA. It's a box of rough cast parts, unfinished barrel, and a roughly cut stock that nothing will fit in until you make it fit. It's not comparable to a Lyman kit. I've assembled several of those factory kits. I'm not knocking them, it's just a different level of effort, complexity and skills needed to build something out of a parts kit such as this Chambers. I hope that paints a picture. Again I'm not knocking the factory kits. I just don't want you running off buying a Chambers kit and being disappointed when you realize it will take you a year to build it (if you are as slow as I am)!

Btw you have some beautiful guns!

What a wonderful built fowler. Your inletting is suberb. Understand what your saying about the Chambers kits. They take time and effort to get the result you have achieved. I have a chambers kit on order and have completed a Rifle Shop kit so have the same understanding on what it takes to get one of these kits together. Again a wonderful job!

Well done, very nice!
I have built 2 Chambers kits over the years and yes they do require a little more effort but they are a great kit with very good parts, I have ordered an English fowler just recently.

Thanks Penske! Which Chambers are you going to build?

Thank you!!

Very well put.
The term "kit" gets used a lot. Unfortunately it has gone too far down the road to redefine terms.
Traditions, Pedersoli, Lyman, and the like should maybe be called "model kits" or just "models" because they basically are like building a model car, tank, truck, or airplane purchased at the hobby shop.
And, maybe kits like the one you built, from Chambers, Track of The Wolf, and the like, should be called "sets" or "parts sets," as none of the work is done already, you are just purchasing a set of parts meant to go with eachother, rather than seeking and purchasing each individual piece.
With this in mind I have a hard time thinking of the former as a "build."
But, I think differently than most so am often "wrong."

Nice job. Curious about tang on trigger guard behind the bow. Seems to be bent to accomodate cast off for right hand shooter. Does the stock have cast off? Also looks tweaked from image of underside.

Jack,
I have a Haines rifle on order. I have built the Rifle Shope P1776 British rifle. Lots of filing and wood inletting and correcting minor stock issues. I just don't like the barrel length on the Kibler kits currently offered. Waiting for their new smooth bore kit to be offered then I think I might order one.

Thank you!!
