Hey brothers and sisters.
I picked up a beutiful .50 TC hawken today. Cap lock, brass furniture, black walnut stock.
It doesn't matter, but I'm curious how old it might be. Little battle scars from hunting but bore is spotless. Previous owner said it's taken many whitetail.
SN is 430xxx.
Any help would be appreciated. I know the plant burned down and many records where lost.
Thanks

Search some of the older TC threads here. You may get a rough idea based on posts where people give serial numbers and when they purchased the gun. For instance I have a TC Hawken kit gun I purchased and built around 1975 or 76. It has a k5xxx serial number.

Thanks for the reply. From doing some searching, I think the early ones where built in Mass. Mine was made in NH.

This came up on a thread about a month? ago. Lots of folks gave ser #'s and when purchased. Search??

I don't know if this will help you, but both of these TC rifles were bought brand new by me back in 1995 and 1996

Last month I picked up a used Hawken from my LGS. Shop owner got it from the original owner and came with a 1983 brochure so it's somewhat logical to assume my Hawken may be from about that time of the early 1980s. I'd grab the serial off it and post it up but it's in the safe and my Mrs. wouldn't take to kindly of me pawing through the safe and waking her up. I'll get that serial tomorrow and share it

You can tell a lot from the sights, a licture would be helpful

True . . . .
The rear sight might help . . . .as well as the position of the clean out screw on the bolster . . . .
The earlier rear sight had more “detail” . . .and the screw “moved” from the side to the top.

My curiosity was peaked, so I had to check. I purchased mine at KTP in 95. Serial number is 478xxx, odd thing is mine was a kit but no “K” prefix. The box does have the “K”.

Thanks for all the information. I was just curious. Main reason is if I ever to run across a .54 barrel for sale.
It's a shame that TC decided to stop making them. I love this rifle.

A 54cal TC Hawken barrel won't fit your stock as they are 1 inch and the barrel on your gun is only 15/16ths

Looking at the classifieds on this forum it appears age doesn’t make much difference in price except for a very early one with steel furniture. Condition is a bigger factor. $350-$500 seems to be the typical spread.
