Hi Coinneach. Have you every been the the Millmerran rendezvous in QLD a few from Nowra attend there each year Cheers

Yes, years ago in the late 90's and early 2000's, sadly my Army career priorities prevented me to keep attending, and I've only been able to resume over the last few years with Muzzle loaders.

I managed to keep all my gear though, including Tentage and period Camp equipment.
Whens the next Millmerran rendezvous ?

I'm glad to see that page is going well still, I created that year's ago when I got into black powder and didn't know anyone else that did it. Deactivated Facebook and passed on the group to others but glad to see its going strong.

No Tb, but semi-autos & pump actions are banned. When John Howard confiscated our guns after the Port Arthur incident he banned the use of semi-auto & pump action shotguns & .22 bunny rifles. It is often touted that he banned assault rifles, but in fact these had been banned years before the Port Arthur shootings. The semi-auto assault rifle used at Port Arthur actually came from the police, it had been handed in some time before & was in police custody! There never was a coronal enquirie!!!

Nothing is safe when a politician goon needs to show he's 'doing something' to make the useful idiots think he needs re-electing. The same disease exists here across the pond from you, and in many other previously 'free' countries. The Iron curtain spreads it's wings...

I'm Vic so no help there, but I will say I've never met another BP shooter face to face and have still managed to get all the information I needed from forums. Having said that I'm a hunter not a target shooter. But there is a plethora of information available and plenty of people willing to share.

Sure does look like a great forum for learning a lot

Welcome mate. There isn’t much about black powder and muzzleloaders you can’t learn from the good people here.
It helps to indoctrinate you if you have a specific historical era in mind; blackpowder covers everything from the late medieval period up until the early 20th century.

Hi Widows Son, I'm an archaeologist working mostly in the colonial period, so my interests lie mostly in late 18th to early 19th centuries. I prefer flintlock musket in theory so far but haven't yet opportunity to explore other areas.

ps. 'Widows Son' reminds me of a particular other interest in my life but have had to resign from the chair a few years back due to family responsibilities. Would I be correct in thinking you're a part of it to?

What's your interest?

If it's flintlock and round ball this is the place.

If it's caplocks or inlines with conicals/sabots the sister forum Modernmuzzleloader.com is a better place for that.

Ben,
Welcome aboard; your nearest club would probably be the Sydney Colonial Muzzle-ioading Club
.
They are at Sackville which is not far from the lower Bluue Mountains.
It’s a very good club with excellent facilities and a great bunch of blokes.
Look them up on Google where there is a wealth of information.
lf you want down to earth information stick with the main forums, that’s where there is a real wealth of experience

Hi Colonial Boy, thank you for suggesting Sydney Colonial Muzzle loading Club - I forgot to add them into my list of my first post. I believe this will be a good place to start, especially with their training saturday - exactly what I was looking for. I just got turned away from their website initially as they appeared to be modern with images and such, but delving deeper I've found the blackpowder info. Its the same time for me to get out to Mudgee, but Sackville seems closer since I'm used to driving down to Windsor a lot. Mightbook in for December 11 or January.

Flintlock and roundball is where I'm definitly at mate. I study the period a lot for my job as an archaeologist, which has been what has 'sparked' up this interest to start. I used to shoot when I was a kid and teenager, but modern 22, 303, 308, but now older I want to simplify and get back to omething historical in nature but it's been near twenty years since I've shot anything so starting with the training session at Sydney Colonial Muzzleloading CLub sounds the best way for me to start.

There was a bit on NZ TV news about a dig at a new sight , The archaeologist held up a musket flint and said " and this is a little flint knife that the Maori would have used for dressing flax , ,I think we need you out here . I have identified Bess parts and various different flints for archaeologists who ask first and get on the TV second .

I always thought archaeology would have been an incredible job, to dig through old carthage would be one of my life's highlights!

Don't underestimate them, they're good at killing, the old sphere of lead!
