I saw a Cimarron 45 cal. black powder revolver with a .45 [unmentionable (.45 LC)] interchangeable cylinder. Very interesting handgun. Has anyone had any experience with this gun? It really got my attention and interest. The best of both worlds. .45 cal cap and ball and a pretty decent centerfire, all in one frame. I have to admit, it is a bit tricky changing cylinders. Didn't buy it. Yet.

Is it a Colt or Remington style? The Remingtons are a snap to change cylinders on, the Colt's require removing the wedge and pulling the barrel off of the arbor (cylinder pin). I have a Rem. style, I don't think I'd like a Colt style for extra cylinder use; I have a few Colt's and prefer to shoot them 'New York Reload', that is , carrying them loaded already; when one is empty, just pull another and go to work.

It's the Remington style.

Not supposed to discuss center fire here.

.45 caliber BLACK POWDER. Read it again. It comes with two, 2, dos cylinders. One black powder, one unmentionable. I included a detail about the unmentionable because it might peak other's interest two own such a versatile BLACK POWDER pistol. 😁

I have three '58 replicas, two are the smaller grip models and one is a big Pietta SS model. You will absolutely love it in BP and unmentionable BP cartridge. This is a word of caution on the unmentionable, remember this has a BP frame so go easy on the handloads. I would stick with BP handloads. Just my $0.02 worth.

I reference "improved performance" cylinders...

I own the Pietta version of the combo Rem Army you mention. Works great. Cimarron firearms are manufactured by Uberti and Pedersoli in Brescia, Italy.

I read where the guy behind Cimarron specifies the particulars of the guns he's having made, and even has a desk in at least one of the mfgrs. for when he visits. Cool!

I have both, Uberti branded and Cimarron branded. I have laid both, side by side and I cannot tell any difference between them.

I cannot tell any difference between the trigger pulls on either and both need a trigger job.

I call them "improved performance" cylinders.

Actually, percussion caps used to come in a container marked "centerfire". Cap and ball revolvers are centerfire guns, not muzzleloaders. They are discussed on the Forum because they existed at the same time as muzzleloading caplock rifles, and were in general use.( Or so memory serves. I don't have time to look up the Rule and lose what I've written.) The conversion cylinders fire modern, brass cased cartridges with self contained centerfire primers, which is why they are not discussed here.

JamesA, the Cimmaron convertible sounds like a fun, useful revolver. If you want it, buy it.
