Looks like Taylor’s has a new Ace up their sleeve:

The Colt’s snub nose “Avenging Angels” have gotten all the attention but it now looks like Taylor’s has a new line of belly guns based on the classic Remington 1858. The cylinder pin retaining system is interesting. This would make a dandy gun for poker night at the local saloon!

I bought one a couple weeks ago and have been messing around with it a little bit. Zero issues with it - the only "negative" is that it shoots a bit low, which is actually a good thing since it will be easy enough to adjust POA/POI with some filing of the front sight.

I'm really liking it so far. If you are considering getting one I would strongly suggest it!

I posted a couple quick videos with it. Enjoy!

VERY NICE. Pietta seems to be seriously stepping up their quality game in recent years. I’ve bought two Colts from them in the past year and they’re just superb.

Seems the velocities are quite acceptable. The gun is still generating 150 or so ft-lbs of muzzle energy. With a .44 round ball that is nothing to sneeze at and would be very lethal at close range!

I just watched your video (excellent!) and I really love the spring loaded cylinder pin retainer design. This would allow for an exceptionally quick reload with a spare cylinder or for just quickly removing it to load the cylinder on a stand. Super!

I agree with you concerning the quality of the stuff Pietta has been putting out recently. I was a bit nervous with the shut-downs they have been having over there this past year that QC would suffer, but that doesn't appear to be the case. In fact, I have a few Pietta's that have been manufactured in 2021, and I think they are the best I have seen yet with regards to fit and finish.

I think I have put about 60 rounds through the Ace so far and have had zero hiccups. In one of the videos you can see me fiddle with the cylinder on one of the next to the last shots, but that is only because I miscounted and didn't realize I had one more shot to go! I have had no binding, cap jams or anything to prevent the gun from going bang each and every time.

And thanks for the kind words about the video. I'm trying to build a channel up, so any and all views help!

That’s suspiciously identical to the retaining device made on a 3D printer by a gentleman on “the high road”...

I have the checkered grip model and like it a lot. I find the 1851 grip and overall profile more comfortable but this 1858 is well-made. Like mentioned, it shoots a little low. I did some chronographing and I got 682 FPS average with 30 grains Pyrodex P.
jdesro got 703 FPS. What load was that with, I heard you mention 30 grains, but what other specifics. What size caps are you guys getting the best results with? Thanks

That was 30gr of Goex 3F with a Hornady. 454 round ball. Bore Butter type grease covering the chambers.

I find CCI #10 works best for caps with Piettas, as long ad you seat them firmly with a dowel or something.

These seem like they are perfect for the mythical "spare cylinder swap " , .

I honestly like the Colt "snubbies" better, they have more of a period "hideout gun" look , these Remington "Aces" look like someone's garage project . The Pietta "Sheriff" length 1858's are pretty ideal.

I like the looks of it and being a full size with a short barrel is nice.
I have a Uberti 1862 pocket police ,a very nice piece but small for my hand.
I am considering getting one of the Ace pistols

I agree with the "garage " look. Not in love with the plain barrel hanging out there.

I have a couple Colt Replica revolvers cut down that I like the looks of better.

Just me. Bettin they are fun tho!

I agree that the Colt snubbies have much more graceful lines, but I still like the looks of the Remington - I think it has a very "business-like" style.

I shot my ACE over the bench the other day. Results weren't quite what I had hoped for, but there is more testing to be done so hopefully I'll come across something that shoots the way I want it to.

I ordered an "Ace" on-line tonight from Jedediah Starr. Plain smooth wooden grips. I actually like the fake ivory grips better, but I already have one like that.

Their price is $329.99 plus shipping. Shipping cost depends on how fast you want it to arrive. I'm in no hurry.

So, now I wait. I have never ordered from this company before, nor have I heard anything about them, good, or bad.

Here are pictures of the full-sized one I already own:

Here is one I made up myself some years ago... in my garage!!! LOL 😀 😲😱😀. It was the first black powder revolver I ever owned. .36 caliber. Someone had already "customized"/iff'ed up the barrel, so I just shortened it some more, and rounded the grips. I cut the barrel to 2-3/4" IIRC. I also made the holster... on my kitchen table!
