I picked this up it appears to be of somewhat decent quality there’s no makers marks I have seen. It’s apparently a 20 gauge with a patent breech any ideas?

Bore is okay not perfect but not a sewer pipe either. I think the reason it’s in pretty decent shape is the nipple was broken at the cone I used a quality wrench and turned it right out . Probably going to get a nipple at Friendship and play

Thank you 🙏 . Is this probably just a cheap hardware store piece? I’m gonna guess probably a poor mans job

I have a similar Belgian single barrel 12 gauge. I first thought the nipple threads were 1/4-28, but actually measure .260-28 as per my non-metric micrometer and thread gauge. Track Of The Wolf catalogs a .260-28 nipple, but I do not know if its thread pitch will interchange with the Belgian-made nipple.

Mine came from a local antique store. It was bought LOADED! I pulled out BP, old brown paper and what looked like reclaimed chewed-up looking birdshot.

I’ll ask around a rethreading might be what it takes.

A guy I'm going to see this morning at the range has its sister in 20g - which is probably what yours is.

He's taken many a bird with it on his farm and it's a good shooter. He paid around £50 for it at an auction in Bedford - I know this because I was with him. What 'called' to him was the really lovely wood. It had recently been re-proofed for sale so the previous owner had probably had it in the family for the last 150 years.

As an aside, here in UK we tend not to sell pre-loaded guns to anybody. Seems sensible to me, but, as they say, your mileage may vary.

I see a fair amount of original muzzle loaders with an old load in them typically the seller isn’t aware

Belgian 21 Bore. Proof marks show 1853 to late 1800s. Nipple thread was posssibly 6mm worn to 6.6 x75mm. What in UK became O BA.( British association). BA shows increasing Nos for decreasing size.. OLD DOG..
Nipple thread should read 6 worn or made as 6.6 X 0.75 mm.
Possibly someone like Pedersoli May have it as a standard..OLD DOG..
