Folks, what can I read from these stamps? I pulled this from someone's dumpster after a move out. Thank you in advance for any info.

If you rotate the photo 180°, it is clear that those are post-1813 Birmingham proof marks.

The "15" marks are the bore size. If these are muzzleloader barrels, the number represents the number of balls-to-the-pound and not the modern shotgun gauge. The bore size was added to the barrel markings per the Gun Barrel Proof Act 1855, so these barrels would date after 1855.

Mr. Bailey, I can't get the whole barrel in one recognized photo so here is both ends.Obviously a muzzle loader it looks kinda poorly but I have seen worse guns I suppose.the nipples aren't rotted out or otherwise abused. The willing stick was in the same dumpster ,just not with this barrel i checked the bore size and it is darn near that of my 16ga. Unmentionables

Mr. Meeks ,thank you very much. So, can I assume that the "Roses" is a retailers name?

Feltwad

Damn! Feltwad got there before I did -- - I was going to write that ;-)
One has to remember that at that time the barrels were made, ground and spill bored -- - all by hand with workmen sweating away, probably on "piece work rate" and THEN they were "gauged" at the Proof House and marked accordingly -- hence a plethora of bore sizes. It wasn't until later that machinery was used to produce numbers of barrels all to the same specifications.

I always wondered why there were so many odd bore sizes back then. Now I know. Thanks.

Fellas, a couple of you seem interested. So, pay the shipping and the first guy can have the barrels and ramrod \ wiping stick for free.I'm too darn old to start it and I really hated to see it in the dumpster ,so. Who would like it for absolutely nothing but postage to ship it to you?
John

I have a similar shotgun. Made just before these barrels and therefore no bore size on them. similar twist steel barrels.

Congratulations! That's the most amazing dumpster diving find I've heard of.
The bores must be really eroded; the exterior shown looks pretty good and the nipples look usable.
