Called up my local gunshop today to inquire about essentials for July 4th, (1F powder and cannon fuse) and asked if they had any C&B revolvers (as I always do). The guy told me he a Pietta "BUFFALO BILL COMMENERATIVE 1858 REMINGTON" for $995.00!!
I jokingly asked if that included RBs, powder, and #10 caps....He said no, "It's a collectable, not really a shooter." My response was..."OK THEN!"

Do people really expect someone to pay that much for a Rem. replica? I know that some things are still tight, but come on! I'd hesitate to pay that much for a Ruger Old Army.....(which I fully intend to get again someday).

I never haggle prices. IF I think the price is fair, have the $, then I'll buy it. I'm not "A MAN OF THE WORLD", but I know how things work in the REAL WORLD. I also now you can't buy a cup of coffee for 5₵ anymore too....but this is the type of "STUFF" that causes panic buying too.

Friend, just take a look at the forums classifieds!
(ya might find yer Ruger)
After seeing today's asking (and sold) prices, then looking at my decades old collection of stuff, I've realized I actually did invest in my retirement years ago!

I find it fascinating to see people buying C&B firearms with absolutely no knowledge of how to use them and powder, ball, and caps which are important for their use are almost nonexistent.
A C&B revolver would not be my first choice for a defensive handgun, but one that is ready for use would beat a sharp stick by a country mile. Thanks I will stay with my 110 year old unmentionable.

If you blow up the image of the linked pistol, it's pretty clear that isn't a $1000 piece. I don't think the Buffalo Bill name is still owned (googling that now). It looks pretty and fun, but it isn't a true wall hanger, which would require actual pedigree and higher quality workmanship.

Commemoratives are worth far more than an average gun and the collectors value on them appreciates much more as years past.

NOT.

With (very) rare exception, “commemorative” or “limited edition” guns of all types are mostly gimmicky and gaudy nonsense that often times can be LESS appealing for resale. Unless one is truly drawn to the looks of a commemorative gun or have a special connection with one, they are often a fools errand.

My feelings 100%!!!!

Agreed. Commemorative guns typically lose about half of their value the moment they're purchased new. Yes there is a resale niche market for an extremely small number of them but for most, no. My dad taught me eons ago that buying commemorative anything is a waste of money, just say no.
