Where theres a will there's a sobbng relation ?( Pam Ayers) .

Hi,
I can't tell from your photos but do have the brass end cap installed on the lid? Don't do any fitting of the latch until you do.

I have always made my latch springs in two pieces, silver brazed with silvaloy 355. May not be the original method, but I get it the way I want it to be and work.

Huh?

Shirley, you can't be serious?

😆 Absolutely! With the button centered in the brass end cap, you can angle the other end of the spring a few degrees as needed. I don't have pictures available right now, but I have done a couple of patchbox covers this way. Can't tell a thing from the exterior, but it simply worked better in those particular situations.

I don't know about originals, but I have seen a few modern builds done that way. No one can tell from the outside.

There is a pointed end latch I use , usually in the catalogs next to the one being mentioned. It's easier to install and what makes it so , is the latch end is placed where it goes and the shank point end , is rotated ccw until the latch is perfect. Inlet and secure with two tiny flat head screws. No muss , No fuss
