Back in the 1990's , befriended an old timer in the camp near the one I was building in North Central Pa. . Told him about an old apple orchard I found in the State forest near by. He and his buddy went there w/a couple Beagles ,and came back to show me four big old woods rabbits they got. It brought back memories of my childhood when My dad and I used to chase rabbits. Go get 'em..........oldwood

Nate, those bunnies you have are certainly nice big fellows. And yes, last year was a bust, this year is already an improvement. I decided not to age and to go the other way. This means I will be one year younger on my next birthday.

It's really warming up here in the state of Maine even compared to most other states. Four years ago some 90" of snow was quite normal for the winter season, Got about half of that this season. Compare that to my native Georgia. Down there there were only three seasons, summer, Christmas and almost summer; that was it!

Today was better. I used proper powder!
Got above a rabbit town on a ridgeline and squealed my head off. That got them appearing from nowhere wondering what's happening.
When one buck stood up to take a look I shot aiming high to try and save the meat.

Is it me or are the seasons seeming to merge into one? Or is it time just seems to go quicker and quicker?

It only seems like a few days ago I was hunting in the cold dark short winter days and now its nearly May already!
Anyway it's been a warm sunny day without any wind here, ideal for the hmr but nope, it had been over a week since making smoke so I went rabbit hunting with the little 45.
It was going to be one of those days when you nearly wish you had not bothered!
First off, annoying noisy walkers everywhere ! Living on a cramped island is a royal pain in the rump!
As if that wasn't bad enough my stubbornness had me bring along the last small amount of really course powder. After two shots at squirrels the third missfired on a nice buck rabbit, then the fourth rabbit! I crammed some fine powder in the nipple and shot it at a fence post at about forty yards. The 3/4oz of #5 peppered the post quite well.
Feeling disheartened i reloaded as the sun was close to setting and headed to an area with a few rabbits i spotted on my last visit.
I found a very abliging buck and made a successful 20yd shot.
There was enough light left for a another try but on reflection I thought no, I'm going home !
Maybe I can revisit tomorrow after work and have a more regular session on my preferred powder granulation of powder.
Oh yeah, the photo.

How old are you? When I was a child, time D R A G G E D .
In my 70's now and time is R A C I N G .
Sorta like money. The less you have left, the quicker it goes.

Yeach, some
Brit, When I lived in Lincs' I used to get some walked up Hare days. The "rule of the road" was them as shoots em carries em. One 8 or 9lb. Hare was enough for me any day, but Not seen rabbits around here for some years.. OLD DOG..
Yeah some places are covered in them.
Nor to many where I am so I leave them.
When I stalked deer in Scotland regularly I use to bring a blue hare home for a gent regularly too.
They are a little smaller than the brown hare.

Boundary walk up days with a couple of spaniels and a party of 4 guns can be a good days sport for mixed game

Let's see. We have jackrabbits in the west (hares) - never lived on the left side of the Mississippi. Here in Maine we have the snowshoe hare; rabbits are protected. Don't know what else is out there in the wilds.

You noticed that too! Some days I can't find enough hours to get things done. Then I reflect back to the working days and wonder how I managed to find time. SMH
