No offence but every man to his own personally I can not see any sport in turkey hunt for me it is a UK driven pheasant day and plenty of sporting shots :thumb:;)

Well, I certainly would enjoy a day of the "driven pheasant day and plenty of sporting shots", as I have hunted pheasants with dogs and there is nothing like working with another species to accomplish your goal, especially with a beautiful setter or springer. Turkey hunting is a totally different hunt which includes the search, locating, talking with, luring them in and then making the shot. No offense taken Feltwad, you have just never experienced it.

Feltwad,
No offense taken or intended. I’ve never been fortunate enough to participate in a proper, English pheasant hunt. The closest thing we have stateside is to place “blockers” at the end of a cornfield or a windbreak or a cattail swamp. As our pheasant populations have plummeted those hunts have disappeared. Now, what bird hunting still exists is walking the up and following dogs. Both great sports.
Frankly, turkey hunting requires more, varied skills than shooting driven...based upon my experience.

Feltwad, the turkey is one of the most difficult animals there is to hunt, he is very woods wise and eye sight that would put a bird of prey too shame, Yes a driven bird hunt is on my bucket list, but too test your real skill match wits with a turkey. Never a more noble bird to inhabit the timber.

Yes I can see your and others point of view but videos on Turkey hunts do not help the shooters reason when you see a shooter hiding behind a turkey tail calling a turkey jock and when at 5 yards and less away blowing its head of ,that to me is not a sporting shot or a wise bird will not help the sport.
Ok I have never done a turkey hunt for the simple reason that we do not have them in the UK but when you see videos like that what opinion are people going to take.

Depends on how experienced the people forming these opinions are. A video is just a video. they don't show the hours and hours of footage of scouting or when nothing happened or the turkey out smarted the guy. I've seen elk hunting videos where a guy gave a couple cow calls and a huge elk ran up to a few yards away, the guy shot him with his bow and the next scene was him sitting smiling beside a huge elk he killed with his bow. Looked easy. I'm a hunter though so I know better, it's a video.

Troy,
While we/you’re waiting for waiting for that opening day, I’d appreciate seeing a picture of that underhammer, and I’d wager I’m not the only one.

No one has shot a turkey this spring?

C’mon you layabouts- seasons Are open and the Toms are gobbling! :dunno:
Season hasn't started here yet. 3 weeks to go I think. Then the real sport becomes finding time to go and a place to go. What used to be my best places are now overrun with other "hunters."

Some of whom do recognize the "sporting' difficulties of bringing a wary spring male turkey (or tougher a group of hens with their boyfriend's in tow) close enough, <25 yards(?) and making a clean head shot (with modern ultra tight "turkey" chokes and loads designed for tight patterns it is very possible to miss at 20 yards), without moving or being seen. I know they realize the sporting difficulty, because we have a few too many who do act in unsportsmanlike ways. Shooting birds off the roost. Getting between a good calling hunter and a bird being "worked" to shoot the bird that hunters is calling.
Would people do these things if doing it right were easy?

Pretentious,,,,

Snob.

Hmm, does snob rhyme with.....

Or close enough?
Sir if that remark referred to me then I must say I am not but a true sportsman and just quoted what the opinion most shooters would think who watched the video .Yes I am angry when people take someone's opinion the wrong way and call him names.
