Canadians / Massive Disobedience?
I’ll believe That when I see it.
There's not too many in Alberta that will roll over this time. We all saw the massive waste of money that happened with that last boondoggle. I'm told that the average Albertan wont fall for this again.

The hell you say. I believe this whole thing about Cabelas is that you used to be able to buy black powder rifles and pistoles from a Cabelas store and they would send it to your home, Now you have to pick it up at one of their store
fronts. In the past I have bought a few from them and they sent them to my home. I have since tried and they would
sell to me but I had to pick it up at their store in Kansas City store a 400 mile round trip. Ordered from other places now. The reason they gave me was that they were afraid of law suits for selling firearms through the mail, this has all
come about after their sale to bass Pro.

The misinformation & fear mongering starts before we even know what the "policy" is. I never cease to be amazed at how many gun owners are so ignorant of what the gun laws actually are & how the 4473 Form is managed & handled after you fill it out & under what circumstances the government can access any 4473.
If the feds (or any law official) wants the information all they have to do is start with the manufacturer or importer. They ask who the guns were sold to. Usually a distributor. From there the guns go to a dealer and from there to the original buyer. I work in a gun store. If a gun is found at a crime scene that is usually how it is traced back to the owner. If that person sold it or gave it away they may be asked for proof. If the store no longer has a record of the transaction that is the end of the paper trail.

So since I decided to cancel my order with cabelas my good friend Suzi at the gun works has got a great deal for me. Details and pictures to come later

I believe you are correct.

Ive been seeing a lot of folks saying to lie on the form. I’m not sure what that would get you but it seems it will NOT get you the gun and likely be prohibited from buying any weapon from Cabelas again.
how can you lie on the form when at the same time yours filling it out they are looking at two forms of ID? Unless you a fake ID that matches the fake form you just filled out they won’t hand you the gun.
Its no more then a receipt. Big deal. its not binding to you in a legal sense so why complain about it.

Just do your part in catching the bad guys and your second amendment will never be repealed. Supreme Court did not expel licensing to own guns nor taxing guns to the point they are unaffordable. We are responsible for our future as gun owners.

Interesting discussion.

I fall in the camp that lying is just wrong. Not only that, but it generally backfires.

For the longest time, the conservative motto regarding new gun laws has been "If the courts would just apply existing gun laws, we wouldn't need new gun laws." I fall in this camp, then and now.

If law-abiding gun owners begin lying to acquire firearms, how are the anti's supposed to differentiate them from the criminals who routinely engage in dishonesty to acquire theirs? Fear (and I would suggest this borders on paranoia for some) of what the some might do with new gun legislation is not a viable excuse for a self-serving situational ethic when it comes to dishonesty. I would argue it plays directly into the anti's hand: "See? All those gun guys are shady--you can't trust any of them!"

Don't like having to fill out paperwork for a black powder firearm? Fine--buy one from another vendor who doesn't require it. Lying because it works from you or because it feels justified because you don't like what "they" are doing doesn't make it any less dishonest.
Before anybody decides that I'm holier than thou, I've made my own mistakes and had to answer for them, sometimes at great cost or personal discomfort. It sucks to lose face, particularly when it was a deliberate choice on my part that caused it to happen.

I've decided to just cancel my order with cabelas. Now I do need to look for another .54 ML. Apparently Indiana state is requiring cabelas to to have some form to be filled out even for MLers
I really do not want to be engaged in this mess, but as a long time Indiana resident, owner of everything up to and including Class 3 fire arms, absolutely incorrect. The state of Indiana has no requirement for anything concerning muzzle loading firearms other than special seasons for hunting.

Cabela as a private company can require anything the want.
