I picked up this powder last week I have no idea how old it is or who made it. Whoever made this horn was was pretty skilled at horn making and scrimshaw. It's got a few worm nibbles on it but none go completely through the horn. Now I need to make a bag to go with it.

After a closer inspection I found a set of initials in the scrimshaw that I think are R.V. doesn't help me much but some of you may know who it is.

@andy52, you will have to talk to Larry Callahan if we can ever get to a rendezvous. He knows most of the horners around here. If not Larry, then there are enough folks hanging around at his table that would likely know. Perhaps the doings at Camp du Bois near Wood River, IL on April 10 and 11.

That is a very nice horn.

Thanks I'm still hoping the Trappers will be able to have a rendezvous at my place this fall if the Covid permits. I could make it to Camp du Bois I certainly know were it is I help build it. Al Puknat and I spent days over there mixing and running mortar for the brick layers and setting logs with a highlift, fortunately I was certified to operate the lift. I haven't been there in several years it might be a good time to revisit.

I miss the Trappers' Trade Fair that was held the first Sunday in March.
I've been to several of their rendezvous when they held them at Sioux passage, at one of them I roasted a whole hog for as many people as could eat it which was pretty much the whole camp. I thought they put on a well organized rendezvous that's the reason I offered them the my property.

Looks like a slightly stylized R.H. to me. hornguild.org has a Richard Hujsa listed. I can't find any examples of his horns online, only an obituary from 2019, but maybe someone has access to that sites online museum or you might try their "I have this old horn" link and send the pictures to them.

Thanks I'll give that a try.

I just send them a request with the photos above. I got a return email saying they had received the info I'll see were it goes from there.
