Nope, they survive.

Some will hibernate. Some will sink to the bottom of ponds or where they live, metabolism slows was down, they will surface periodically, take a breath of air and sink back to the bottom. Repeat as necessary.

Alligators live a long time. When they reach to be 12 to 13 long, they are about 75 years old.

Well havent found any snakes here in the piney woods of E. Tx , but went out to my store building looking for something else and as I opened it I found 3 Geckos huddled together frozen ! Felt sorry for the lil buggers.
birds have committed kamikaze runs on windows trying to get in !

It’s all about preparation and what your use too. I’m in New Hampshire setting in my living room by the fire with power watching the 3-5 inches of snow fall on the 21 degree day. Roads are already being cleared. However, I just got off the phone with my brother who lives in Houston and he is not a happy camper but he just got his power back on and the heater has kicked in. Fortunately, he made it through this Texas mess with no injuries. Need to start calling other family members now to see how they are doing. Didn’t want to waist their cell phone power.

I think in this case SIZE definitely matters...IIRC there's 5 counties in Texas bigger than New Hamshire..or one of your neighbors, my heads a little fuzzy from the meds.

THAT is truly a sad sight to behold...I hope they could save the hides at least, maybe some backstraps. The best deer I've ever eaten was Axis.

Unfortunately, they are frozen, kinda hard to skin and butcher.

Would need a good size labor force to do what would be nice to do.

Not so much the size of the area but again, it is what the area is use too. I spent my formative years in Houston realizing there’s are only two seasons, summer and January 1st. (Just kidding) This storm was something that the area was unprepared for and not use to seeing. It did show the weakness of their power source and grid. I suspect there may be some changes to improve reliability but I could be wrong about that. Hopefully this type of event won’t repeat itself for another hundred years.
