He has a 50 cal. percussion.."Hawken"...and he loaded a jacketed bullet for it and forgot the powder. [and yes I also hate 'jacketed bullets' in a B.P. rifle] So anyhow he says he has tried getting powder in behind the ball thru the nipple hole with no success and he could not get a screw jag to start in the stupid jacketed bullet nose so does anyone have an suggestions at all?
Thank you ...Macon

Yep....here's an easy way to remove it in less than 5 minutes:

Watching the Maniac "shoot out a dryball" I only saw one possible problem. Many of us do the same thing and it works. However after the powder is trickled in I always make sure the ball is on the powder, it is possible the original cap firing may have moved the ball forward causing an obstruction in the barrel.

If you use blackpowder use 4F and be sure to remove the nipple before trying to get the powder in. After trickling all the 4F powder in replace the nipple add a cap, then aim at a approprite backstop and fire it out. Don't use jacketed bullets in a muzzleloader. A newer style inline with sabots is ok but thats all.

Obviously remove the nipple to put black powder in the flash channel. If the charge under the nipple doesn't blow the bullet out, verify that it has moved off the breech area but leave the ball in place until you have added more powder under the nipple and through the flash channel. 10 to 20 grains should remove the ball from the barrel. Reseat the bullet and fire again. Verify that the ball has left the barrel. Point the gun at a sheet of paper or something that will show that a bullet has been shot out. A load of 4 or 5 grains isn't very loud and more than one of us thought that the bullet was still in the barrel and hadn't moved.

I’ve only dry balled once but I am pretty sure I added powder twice before I realized there wasn’t a bullet in the barrel anymore...
