If you're like me you tend to have a favorite rifle. My problem lately is they are all my favorite and I want to use all of them. So question. Do use one rifle for the whole season? Do you rotate rifles if you can get multiple deer? which option do u use?
A. One rifle for the season?
B. Rotate to a new rifle after you take an animal?
C. Rotate on each day of the hunt?

I know a lot of us hunt different game in different seasons this is more of say your deer season.
Just curious.....

It is a tough decision. I have a couple of rifles that I have not shot any game with and I should get them out this year to take some deer with them.

At least you have some choices.

Depends on how I feel. Maybe the weather. Or where or how I’m hunting. I may pick a 58 or 62 caliber for that down right now shot in the mountains and then take a 45 caliber Cherokee when walking flatter farm land. Unless camping or hunting near the house, I will have two guns with me with the ‘backup’ or second option in the vehicle or where I am staying.

Sure was glad I had an extra one in my pickup a few years back...didn't have anything that would fit the one I was planning to us. Well maybe the patches would have worked.

Yep, one then the other. So far this year I've used my .54 Lancaster flint to take a doe and a cherry-stocked .50 flinter that I built during our regular deer season. After Christmas during our traditional, flintlock only season, I may pull out one of two .45 flintlocks as well.

I start the season with a small group that are meat hunters. I carry a different rifle with them than I carry when hunting alone. When hunting alone, I carry my flintlock .50 Early Virginia or .62 Rifled Fowler. With the group,we are doing drives and the small sights on the flinters is limiting. When hunting alone I am stand hunting or still hunting, and the small original sights are less of a problem.

Now that I have a couple of pistols, I like to carry one when hunting. If I have the 50 cal. rifle, I bring my 50 cal. mountain pistol.
Or if I'm using my 45 cal. I bring the 45 cal. Kentucky.
Nice to have 2 shots if needed.

Generally one, it’s been a long time since I killed more then one deer in season. I’ve limited place to store more then one.
Rotate now for small game as I have two smoothies avalible.

Me too. When packing one of my .50 rifles I also usually carry my .50 mountain pistol. When carrying a .45 rifle it is a .45 Kentucky pistol. I find my Kentucky pistol much more accurate than the mountain pistol. You?

If I'm going for more than a day hunt I always have a backup rifle that is sighted and accompanied by everything needed to load and use it. If it's not needed it never gets loaded. Might change rifles for a different season that comes along later.

I will generally use the same rifle for the duration of the deer season after shooting/conditioning myself to its particular nuances in the weeks prior to the start.

I would never cheat on my Gal.....
