Good shooting!
My drops are near identical to yours. I shoot at 200 yards with a Pedersoli Frontier and a Lyman GPR.
I fit the GPR with a Pedersoli Ghost Sight and have it dialed in on number of turns on the post so I get POI and POA near exact.
Shooting at 200 is a real hoot!
Where did those ittie bittie holes in the target come from? That for dang sure isn't 54 cal!

If i were sighted in for that distance i would. Especially deer. But thats pretty far to see a deer clearly.

You really should read up on long range muzzleloading with patched round balls. 200 yards is for rookies when compared to the real shooters.

Update from 200. Pulled one but it was late and my front blade sight was real fuzzy. A huge difference in group by upping my charge to 90gr 3fg.

Nice shooting! IMO, there is a BIG difference between shooting targets and game(particularly deer) at extended ranges with a traditional muzzleloader. While they are very capable of grouping within the vital zone of a whitetail at extended ranges, lighting/contrast, retained energy, and even more importantly, ranging and wind error can reduce hit/recovery probability dramatically.

My gun is better than me but I limit myself to ~100yds in good light on a deer.

Low light maybe 30-50 yds. In snow I've lower the rifle, to see sights, then raised onto the deer for a shot at low light. Never missed one.

Good shooting. Most people in my neck of the woods are the type that shoot modern muzzleloaders (only for the extra bit of deer of season) and swear up and down that no Hawken or long rifle could make that shot, much less take a deer at any more than 50 yards. Jeez, if they only knew, right?

At 200 yards, this 54 retains more energy than a 50cal shooting 100 yards. Let that sink in lol.

In this case, i am just target shooting and seeing what my $89 barrel and i can do at longer ranges.

You should show them Idahorons post and the elk he got at over 200y, and with a 50 no less and not really what I would consider a heavy charge.

I have seen his his posts and really enjoy them. Neither my skills nor my rifles are anywhere near his, but his stories do remind me to try a bit harder and practice more. Something to work toward.

Frontier’s shooting is also great. There is a lot of skill and knowledge floating around this board!

Just a quick question..... why 200 yds? I know it’s fun to see, but what does it prove? Surely you wouldn’t take a shot on game at that distance?
It proves you and your gun are good to 200 yards and the 100 yard shots at game become slam dunk almost point blank shoots. I always practice beyond the range I intend to shoot at unwounded game.

Was archery hunting this morning and when I got back to the house I popped a couple arrows in to a target 65 yards out. Let’s me know if there are any shooting form or equipment issues real quick. Limit my shots on deer to 30 yards.

Nice shooting! I'm still on the uphill side of the learning curve on a .54 flintlock I picked of this past August, and loving every minute of my ride up!

Can do a 2 inch group at 150 yards, all day long. Never tried out to 200 with round ball.
My question is, isnt that Hawkins a 1/48 twist barrel, and be better suits for a postel style pill. Wax paper patch some pointy boolits, see what that does.

Yes its a 1:48 and no thanks on conicals. I dont shoot traditional to just go and use a modern projectile. Original hawken rifles also used the 1:48 twist.

It doesn't have to prove anything.
Did you ever try shooting just for fun????
I shoot "others" out to 1300 yards, does not mean I will ever hunt at that distance....
