I've had a lot of down time since catching the Covid 19 virus.
I just saw that Davide Pedersoli co is now building the Lyman Great Plains rifles. I also see that Pedersoli has changed the twist from 1-32 to 1-24.
This kind of surprises me a little. I can't help but wonder how well these would shoot paper patched bullets. I would have to do something about that butt plate but I would like to try one.

Best wishes and get well Ron.

On the Great Plains, I punched up the link you provided and the sticker shock was enough to make me reach for a chocolate donut. On the 24" twist, doesn't Pedersoli currently produce other arms with 24". I'm thinking perhaps that's what they're tooled for. But yeah, it should work well with heavier bullets.

Same here. For a lot less $, I can get a custom drop in barrel from The Gun Works for my T/C Hawken...

14 pounds? Maybe it comes with wheels and a donkey to help haul it?

Have kept back a .50 barrel (left hand flinter 60" twist) for several years in case of wanting to do something different with a GPR.

Maybe. Weight seems higher than I would expect, but just going with weight stated on Lyman website. Anything else is speculation. Unless you have a reason not to believe Lyman.

That appears to be an order form. Shipping weight is just about always factored in.

The GPR made by Investarm weighs under 10 lbs. The Pedersoli one is built to the same spec with just a little better fit, finish, & barrel, so it's going to weigh about the same. 14 lbs. is the "shipping" weight. You will see this "shipping" weight on almost every gun listed on line by a retail outlet. It has no bearing on the guns actual weight.

No doubt a new barrel would surely be cheaper. But if you were wanting a gun that had a fast twist and needed to stay with traditional due to hunting laws or just you personal preference this rifle is ready to go with big lead right out of the box.
It is pretty expensive, that is the big thing. A guy could go several different ways cheaper but this is one of those deals where you buy it and its ready. There are guys that will go for that. and the gun should hold up its end of the Bargen.

All you have said is true enough.
Just saying that The Gun Works will make a custom barrel with as tight a twist as I could wish (up to 35" long) for a third of the price of a new Pedersoli Lyman. If I didn't alreasy have a TC Hawken, I could get the stock and hardware of fleabay fairly cheap. Having read about your Hotrod rifles has sparked some thoughts.
Best wishes for speedy recovery from the Wuhan flu...

That is actually the problem now. The Thompson stocks that are on fleabay are now going for a lot more money than before. I used to pick up a stock there for under 100 bucks. Now they are at times going for as high as 300. If a guy breaks a stock on a TC there are options like having one made. Or a guy can get a stock that is somewhat finished from TOTW. With the Lyman they are still in production and a replacement would be fairly pain free.

My son broke the stock on his rifle and I bought a stock off of TOTW the wood work that was left was beyond my ability at the time. I took it to a gun smith. He proceeded to finish it and broke the replacement stock.
Thanks for the well wishes.
