The TV series ‘Sharpe’ raised the price of Baker rifles beyond my budget. I built a kit because I had craved a Baker long before the TV show. Now, following the sad loss of a dear friend, I have this. Sadly, it’s only 10” long but the patch box opens and the ramrod comes out

In the meantime make em working models!
That would be so sweet.
Casting bb's to fit;)

That's illegal here - you'd get five years for each offence. Depending on how ratty the judge was feeling, or if you got him or her on a good day he or she might roll the two sentences into one, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Nor me. My money would be on five minimum for esch. UK shooters are persecuted enough as it is and an easy target for the loony left!

Not much different here.
I am trying to build a Matchlock and have had to send the old shotty barrel to a local Gunsmith so that I can register it as a firearm.
Only Gunsmiths can manufacture firearms. Then I get a barrel/gun back and fit the rest around it.

I gather the price of Bakers is down to some wealthy collector who buys them all up ! .I bought a remnant pre 1806 Baker and LOTS of hours later it,s all good as new or tolerabley so .

I had similar problems, building the Baker involved a long discussion with a retired policeman regarding the UK Firearms Act And proofing laws. He didn’t like it but, as I was right and he was uninformed I built it.

I had clearance to possess a .625 rifle but actually putting it on my ticket involved another long conversation with a civilian who, it turned out, didn’t have a copy of the relevant regulations. In the end I called it a Gardener Baker and gave it the serial number JG001.

I’m looking forward to the fun with getting the second one on my ticket!

Here in Cambs/Northants, where we have a goodly selection of firearms that have no visible serial numbers, they are identified as, for example, .577cal muzzleloading rifle NVS - no visible serial. Or even later guns of the unmentionable kind that do not have numbers on the metal, only rack numbers on the wood, which does not count. None of my S*i*d*r* have serial numbers.......

To suggest NVSN would have caused melt-down.

I once had an unmentionable with serial number 429 which was the Enfield pattern number for the lower band! All other numbers having visibly been ground off.

In UK You could make your own gun .What you couldn't do was sell; or gift an un prouved gun . at least when they where not registered .

Folks: Please get off the political discussions. We also don't talk about modern cartridge guns on the forum.

Thanks.
