Anyone have one yet?

I think they're a slightly modified version of the Dueling pistol, aimed at people looking to get into NRA matches.

I'd like to get one in percussion, if I need a Flint target pistol I'd probably get something else.

It's a conundrum because I'm at the point where the Continental Target pistol is about $500 on GunBroker, but Dixie currently has the Mortimer Percussion pistol on sale for $750......and if I'm gonna hit my plastic for the gun it's pretty much down to how long do I want to pay the credit card company off for letting me buy this now.

The Continental Pistol uses the Kentucky lock and has a single set trigger.

The Mortimer seems like it's a bit higher quality and a dedicated , high end target pistol for competing .

I'm not paying the way high price for that stuff like the Mang pistol or that Tratham Egg flintlock.

Unless I'm missing something, the Continental Dueling Pistol does not have the same single set trigger as the Continental Target Pistol.
Someone on Cabela's asked the question if it had the set trigger and the answer was no, even though the description said that it does.
A shot show youtube video of the Target model clearly shows the single set trigger which is wide, has an adjustable set screw and a different curved profile,
which the photo of the dueling pistol trigger does not look the same at all.
Unless they changed the appearance of the trigger, I don't see how they can be the same gun for the same price.
Be careful before ordering the dueling model and thinking that it's the target model.
I realize that changes can be made between pre-production prototypes and the regular production models.
Perhaps I'm mistaken, but why are there 2 different names if they're the same model?

The pics I've seen of the Target model look like it has the same trigger as the Kentucky pistol.

You may be right.

The Cabela's page answer to a question only stated that it doesn't have an adjustable trigger as described.--->>> https://www.cabelas.com/product/PEDERSOLI-DUELLING-CAL-BP-PISTOL/2314250.uts?slotId=1

It didn't say whether it did or didn't have a set trigger.
Even Cherry's product page for it states that it has an adjustable trigger.
At this point I don't know which trigger features it has.

It looks to be pretty much a half-stock version of their Kentucky pistol with a higher grade barrel steel.

I could have sworn the video shows a single set trigger.

I just ran across this thread while researching a related topic.

There is a review here: Pedersoli Continental Target Pistol

They explain the difference between the Continental Dueling Pistol and the Continental Target Pistol. I think the main differences are the single set trigger and a better quality barrel. You can see the trigger adjustment screw clearly in this photo:

You can also see that the trigger itself is different. I think the Dueling Pistol has Pedersoli's ubiquitous "pigtail" trigger. The Target Pistol also has a "Premium Match Grade" chromed barrel, as opposed to the blued or browned standard-quality barrel on the Dueler. I don't know if the sights are different or not. They are of the simple drift-adjustable type on the Target Pistol, and from the look of it, I would say the Target pistol does not have a hooked breech. I think it is only available in .45 caliber.

I would not be surprised if Cabela's or some of the other dealers "recycled" photos of the Dueling Pistol to illustrate the Target Pistol. I have seen that sort of thing before, and have taken the trouble to contact dealers and point out that they show the wrong gun in their photos. Some appreciate it, some don't. The bottom line is that when it comes to firearms, many times the customers are better informed about specific models than the dealers are.

In any event, the article in the link (above) discusses the differences between the Dueler and the Match versions of Pedersoli's Continental Pistols in some depth. I think it may have been translated from Italian, but it is pretty well done.

Best regards,

Notchy Bob

just FYI ; Target mod. has a set trigger, Dueling has a standard trigger. Both could be used to win for NMLRA/ NRA matches most likely with some tuning...c

@Stantheman86 Like your searches comparing two pistols, I had similar questions about variances in marketing descriptions of the Pedersoli .36cal Cook underhammer versus the Carleton underhammer. I emailed the shop in Italy, and got the answers usually in less than 1/2 day. You might check there:

Although the shop production is closed at this time, the email CS is good.

How is the Pedersoli team doing? Hoping and praying to God they are riding this plague okay...

@Smokey Plainsman Based on the email they sent back to me over the weekend, seems to be going okay for them at this time. Agreed, I'm also hoping and praying that continues for them and their country.

Thank you for your kind words and for the preference you had purchasing one of our pistols.

We are all fine at Pedersoli. The company is closed, we have to stay at home, hopefully for not too long.

The wrench USA022 is OK , it has 6mm slot (.236"), proper for the Cook Underhammer nipple.
You can also consider the longer wrench, USA 023 or USA 027, to remove the nipple when the barrel is disassembled.

If anybody gets the chance to shoot the Pedersoli Charles Moore percussion .45 cal. pistol, they will understand what a quality percussion black powder pistol really is.
I have one, it is outstanding, and worth every penny.
It is not a light pocket pistol by no means.
But if any gun can make an ordinary shooter a competitive shooter this one could help.
You MUST try one!
Mine shoots best with .437 round balls.
I am not a great shot by no means, but from a light rest ( leaning on something ) 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" is common at fifty yards, yes I said fifty yards.
I also had the flintlock Charles Moore pistol and could not shoot it as well. I traded it away.
I do not work for Pedesoli!
