There is a Colt 1849 Pocket Pistol being offered on a auction site. The current bid is over $900.

What do you all think? I want to buy this but the price seems a little steep. Especially considering it has been relisted maybe 3 times. I know without having it in your hands there is a lot the pictures do not show. Just asking for best guess?

Colt 1849 Pocket Model, .31 cal., 5 shot cylinder, 5 inch octagon barrel, wood grips, stagecoach hold-up scene on cylinder, serial #293229. Excellent condition, locks up tight.

What year was it made in?

Looked at the subject Colt 1849 on Gun Broker. Not expert on 1849 Colts; have owned maybe five or six of them years ago. Following are some concerns and questions:

1. The Colt has no bids; opening bid price is $975. Too high in my guess especially with multiple relists.

2. Dings on top of barrel in the address area are a large negative for me.

3. Loading lever pivot screw being broken off is a concern... are the screw threads o.k.?

4. Grip appears to have wood removed in area behind left side of trigger guard. Grip looks under size in some other areas.

5. Does the wedge have a matching serial number?

6. Does the loading lever flat have a matching serial number?

I attend quite a few gun shows and without some research would "guesstimate" retail value at maybe $600 to $700.

As you say there is nothing like having the gun in hand to evaluate.

Excellent. Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you so much!

I understand all but #2. If you don't mind would you explain that a little more. I just don't know what you mean. Thank you.

I wrote above: 2. Dings on top of barrel in the address area are a large negative for me.

Just meant that the dings on top of barrel have a large effect on value to me if I was a buyer.
