After 3 long months of waiting I've finally received my package from Chambers! This one is a York in 40 cal and looks like a nicely figured piece of wood, so time to get started. My wife said, "so I guess I won't see you for a couple months"...

Should be fun!

I should also add that I just noticed that they knocked $100 off of the wood upgrade due to the long wait for the stock to be milled. It is a pleasure doing business with Chamber's and I enjoy chatting with Barbie... Highly recommend them!

Sweet looking start!!! Don't be a hermit, make sure ya take the lady out to dinner at least once a week.

What kit did you order? They are a pleasure to work with, but it does take time to get their product which is fine. Part of the fun is the anticipation anyway and then the real fun begins.

Jim Chambers Flintlocks Ltd. good company. For many years I have been buying flintlocks and lock kits. They are of excellent quality. Jim Chambers and his daughter Barbie are my friends.

Holy cow this is some hard wood!!! My first gun had similar grade of wood with figure throughout, but this chunk is by far harder than that. Got some hours into it this last weekend, so got the barrel channel scraped, tang inlet and underlugs placed.

Maybe you got sugar maple this time and the last one was red? That said, there can be hard slabs of red and soft slabs of sugar. The torsional resistance figures for sugar show it to be a much stiffer species of wood.

A hard piece of wood will be better for showing intricate fine detail in carving.
