Tow Texture?

I’ve noticed two textures of tow. One is like hair, long neat fibers like this:

Other is scraggly with little bits and things in it, like this:

Which is best for cleaning out a muzzleloader?

I like the clean,but have used the rough with extra manure in it well for wad, I ‘feel’ it’s harder to clean with rough and tow worm.
Rough can catch fire quicker, but good tinder grows on trees in the woods so I haven’t stated fires with tow for years.
 
Do any of you have any trouble using the tow on a patent breech?

In addition, where can you buy the tow for the best prices?
