The market in Pedersolis here in the UK has reach a low which I have noticed in the last year. Was at a auction this week and a sxs pedersoli in 12 bore nearly new sold for £50 which equals 66 USD also a Pedersoli Kentucky with a £80 tag did not get a bid . I think the main reason for this is the increase in original muzzle loaders that have come on the market of late.
Is this only associate to the UK or is it common in other countries.

Feltwad, What are the original antiques in good condition bringing?
You will find that M/L Shotguns that need little or no restoration with no name average from £120 to £ 160 with a name and a shooter will bring £200 plus if cased £400 to 500 if a Manton or top London maker cased £1000 plus .

I would think the market for reproduction or original muzzleloaders would be smaller in the US, but here is where prices are the highest.

I would say that the reason for plenty of originals coming on the market here in the UK is mainly due to the Victorian period , then the UK was the gun largest production of firearms world wide where the States relied on imports which through a hard life have almost disappeared . The Uk dominated the market from the Flintlock period through to the late breach loading period there were different patents and ignitions of firearms which never crossed the pond .Has for big game rifles that were mainly used in Africa, India and the colonies still turn up at auctions but not has many

Likely cause is the lack of interest in firearms and shooting in general in the more populated parts of the world. In socialist countries like the UK and others, the licensing and secure storage requirements, not to mention fewer and fewer places to hunt and shoot are sure to dampen enthusiasm for the ownership of firearms, even muzzleloaders. Becoming less socially acceptable too.

The old farts in the UK that are willing to go to the trouble of lawfully owning firearms are dying off.

Here in Canada the popularity of muzzle loaders has dropped considerably. You almost have to sell used reproduction guns at give away prices or wait for a very long time to get the price you unless you have something someone really needs.Even nice custom guns go for way less than they should.I tried to sell a very low serial number unfired Parker Hale Volunteer rifle with all accessories a short while ago for $1000 and got offers for $500 with shipping included and the guys acted like they were doing me a favor. There is still a muzzle loading crowd here but our circle has shrunken considerably over the last few years especially with the inline guns finding more favor than the traditional guns

Well although the current price situation is great if your buying and I have to admit that I’ve taken advantage from it. I think particularly here in the UK and by the sounds of it also in Canada the alarm bells should be ringing as to the health of our sport. It would seem that we need to take steps to increase the popularity of muzzleloading and stop the decline but just how we can do that I’m not sure. Any ideas?

I would say today why repro muzzle loading shotgun have took a dive in price is the number of originals that are now on the market . Has far has the shotgun is concerned the repro never really caught on the price on a new one rose concededly until they were out priced against a good shoutable original .Has far has popularity is concerned of shooting muzzle loading yes it has decreased mainly because there is only one organisation that caters for it and that is mostly rifle and pistol. The MLAGB has some good members that shoot shotgun but there are many shot gun shooters who shoot shotgun and are not members of any muzzle loading organisations Has for black powder shooting there is only one type of shotgun shooting on the increase and that is both game and clay shooting with the early breech loading hammer guns ,because like original muzzle loaders there is a glut on the market and if there is a total lead shot ban there will be a lot more , with most going too the furnace thus destroying our Victorian and Damascus heritage .
