Well hi guys, thanks to a tip from a forum member on a sister board, I just bought this beautiful unfired Ohio style halfstock .40 caliber caplock rifle from Track of the Wolf:

Looks to be an absolute beauty with nice features and the price was fair. Been looking for a traditional custom caplock for a long time. To stumble on an as-new unfired one with virtually every feature and specification I could ask for, I just couldn’t turn it down. I asked them them to ship it after Turkey day. You all will be seeing it right along with me. I’m so excited!! Just thought I’d share guys, take care,

That's a pretty little gal! Congrats! I looked at that one too, but we can't use a .40 for deer here, .44 is minimum diameter, and I already have a .32 for bushytails, so I just had to drool over it awhile. Glad someone here is bringing it home. Hope you don't plan to leave it in unfired condition for very long, lol!

When I first saw this rifle on another forum I thought I was looking at a really nice antique (I hadn't read the description first). That is a fine quality rifle. Too bad more like this aren't made. Thanks for posting Smokey.

What are you referring to about the butt plate ? I don't see anything out of the ordinary about it but I am not particularly versed in what would be an average run of the mill butt plate for an Ohio rifle .

I recommend getting a flash cup to put under the nipple to avoid stock wear/damage. I have been using a similar rifle for over 20 years. Mine is in the Vincent style as well. I have shot in many matches with it. It has been to Friendship, Ind., and other venues. If I do my part it does its. You have made a fine choice. Good luck with it.

Should be a tack driver for sure! I’ve seen other Compton made rifle’s. He always turns out extremely nice muzzleloader’s. Yours is no exception!

Let us know when ya get it along with range report as well my friend. We’d also like to see more pics as well?

Very cool. Should keep fragments away from the eyes when hunting squirrels if I forget my eye pro?

More so to protect the top portion of your lock panel and breech/barrel area. Always wise to wear eye protection regardless.

I see now, using my my phone it's too small to realize that the little arrow that is used to go from one picture to the next is superimposed on top of the heel of the BP. It looked like a brass knob on the heel.
