Some recent topics got me thinking about just how much junk do I really need to carry.
I'm always looking to lighten my load or streamline it.
I am challenging myself to put everything I need into this tiny digital camera case.

It's smaller than my hand measuring 4.25"x 3.5"x 1.75"
If it works out I'll make a period styled one of that size.
I hate traipsing through the woods carrying more than a squaw.

Comments, opinions and ideas welcome.

You have a great idea and something that size would be an ideal belt bag.

2 or 3 rounds, spare flint, small screwdriver, ball puller, cleaning jag, a few extra patches, what else do you need? Oh, a 1 or 2 ounce bottle of "snake bite medicine".

Nothing wrong with simplicity. I confess that sometimes when I'm pressed for time, I use modern clothing etc. when I dash out for a few hours ML small game hunting, and I have an old "upland hunting coat" that has 6 pockets. I divide just the essentials among those pockets..., I put the hunting licence, my ID (required also by law) and written permission to hunt, in a "swimming safe"; a plastic, waterproof container around my neck and under all my shirts (can't get lost). So I guess that's seven pockets. o_O

Before MZ season I quickly knocked together a simple belt pouch out of elk leather. It is a little floppy since the elk is soft, but that makes it comfy to leave on your belt all day. Has one compartment, a simple flap with a button made out of a slice of deer antler, and two belt loops. It is just long enough to hold my short starter and easily holds all my other odds and ends (capper, reloads, patches, cleaning jag, etc.).

So far I've managed to comfortably fit a small powder flask, an altoids mini tin with 24 balls in it, a 1 oz botle of M.A.P., a inline capper, an tin of caps, a tin of lube, shooting and cleaning patches, a nipple wrench and a ball starter.

Still have some tweaking and testing to do yet.

Should be nothing more required!

I have a double belt pouch by The Leatherman that holds enough stuff for a days hunt with a fair sized flat horn in one of the pockets.

I used to carry the minimum when deer hunting, 4 patched balls on a board, a finger measure, and a shirt starter.

Then I ran into a situation and ended up shooting 8 pigs in 1 day and had I not broke my ramrod I coulda kilt more.

I’ll stick with my regular possibles, enough to shoot 20 rounds...just in case lol.

What do you carry in your regular possibles that I don't have covered, or that you think I might need ?

[QUOTE="Carbon 6, a inline capper, an tin of caps, .

How many caps does your inline copper hold? Might be able to do away with the tin of caps[/QUOTE]

Your are right, I could eliminate the extra caps, but if I drop my capper in the snow (being of open design), I might be screwed. I like to have some redundancy with caps.

I carry about 10-15 balls, strip of patching, finger measure,1 extra flint, Short starter in my bag(7”x”5). I carry a small brass flask of 3F and my pocket knife in a pocket.

I use a spit patch to eliminate “lube”, might consider that if your gun likes it. I also use my strip of patching for both cleaning and shooting.

I have deer hunted on my back hill with one in the barrel, the horn (measure hanging from the horn throat), and three patched balls on a ball-block attached to the horn strap. VERY minimalist.

Though I have a spare ball, flint, loaded tow worm, ball puller and vent feather all wrapped in cotton patch material in the patchbox . . . just in case.

I've done similar to you guys above, but my reasoning this time was to keep everything contained in one unit like a traditional shooting bag. Just wanting to downsize and reduce as much bulk as possible. Small, nice and neat, and fully functional. Grab and go.

I use a tiny flask along with an old TC adjustable measure in my coat pocket along with a small ziplock with 2 balls and pre lubed patches . The other coat pocket has a small box of caps and a ziplock of rump ribbon . I keep a bag full of stuff in the truck if I need more . For small game hunting I use a standard but small beavertail pouch with small powder horn and smaller priming horn , 15 balls , patches , vent pick and patch knife .

I like those tubes with the caps on top for my shotguns.

Using the equal by volume charge of powder/shot, I load one end of a bandoleer meant for .410 shotgun shells with shot filled tubes and the other end with the powder charges.

Saves lots of time when busting clays with my cartridge shooting buddies as well as when hunting doves.

A capper and a pocket full of wads is all I need then and I'm in business.
