When I go to my tick farm, I get up at daylight and walk down to open the gate, that counts as my morning exercise.

As I was with in 50 yards I could see something in the weeds jumping around. It was a strange move to the critters. Not squirrels, not baby hogs, huh.

In a bit as I moved a touch closer, it was 3 baby coyotes playing tag.

Never have seen baby coyotes, made a nice morning.

No reason to kill baby's, but soon.

They ain't babies for long and in all honesty they ain't babies. They are pups.
An out of control predators in your land.
Missed opportunity.
Sorry but fox cubs over here don't get any mercy from me too. I seen the imbalance to my local ecology from over predation!

You are correct, I KNOW they are not babies and they are pups.

I also do not need to carry a firearm each time I go to open my gate for protection, personal and predator control.

I thought I would share what I thought was a nice experience in seeing young animals playing. Most folks do not see what I see in the woods.

An out of control predators in your land.????

It seems reading your posts over the years, you seem a need to shoot everything you come across in the woods, that is a shame.

No wonder you have all the laws you have on firearms and are legislated on what you can shoot from your firearms in hunting. We have open carry on side arms, do you???? Seems you are worried about what happens on this side of the pond for some reason.

Oops. Sorry I came across insensitive.

It was just my opinion, presumptuous maybe too.

I thought this is the hunting section see.

Any way, your image of me is equally flawed but that's ok and understandable as there is not dedicated section for wildlife photography on here. Of which I must add I have plenty.

B:)

My guess is that at 2.30 AM you have been up all night and may be a bit on the cranky side.
At least here in Texas, 'yotes ARE an out of control predator. They are NOT playful little critters/ They are dog killing crafty opportunists. Tree huggers have made the general public feel sorry for them. Simply because they don't know anything about them. I grew up on a Texas farm\ranch. 'Yotes are one of the few that will kill livestock and family pets for the pure pleasure of killing. Brit may be a Brit, but he is also a sportsman that EATS almost anything he takes, with the exception of a predator that DOES need to be controlled.

I have to sort of side with FishDfly on this one. I hunt feral hogs with a vengeance, but even with them, I cannot see myself killing the suckling youngsters. It's all a matter of perspective when it comes to babies in the wild. I walked up to a group of four very young armadillos recently, and while some folks will kill them without a second thought, I walked up to one and took a picture...and left them alive and looking for bugs to eat.

Actually, I got up to go to the bathroom since my wife was snoring and I could not sleep.

I shoot coyotes when I have a chance. Walking to the gate with a gun is not a requirement. I carry a gun in all vehicles at all times for needs when required.

I thought some might find seeing baby critters interesting. I enjoy wildlife and do hunt, I guess I have reached a point I do not see a need to kill everything on the ranch.

This is my chance to ask.....I have always wondered what is the issue with armadillos, can you or someone explain?
I know I'm only a little stereotyped Englishman but I am interested in wildlife at your place too.

Two things i am aware of, in texas they tear up yards for the new grass roots to feed on at night, looks like someone took a rake to a fresh cut lawn, may do the same to crops when new planted, not like a hog can of course, carry rabies is the other i have heard. In addition they are like a turtle crossing the road, REALLY SLOW!

I wouldn't shoot em, wouldn't say boo if other did. I am a baby lover of all species (I would have earlier in life when I could find my way back home by following the dead stuffo_O).

BTW me and daughter saw a mama black bear and 2 cubs few weeks back! CLOSE...30 yds. She huffeed, babys scooted up a tree, we scooted one way mama the other! Thank God we had the two giberianhuskerds or she might not have scooted at all! Baby bears look like black basketballs with heads:) Counting those three I have seen 5 bears in a month! One a HUGE boar near Airepine the other a lil 2 yr old blonde in town (he has been either relocated or:(....made alot of local news in back yards etc.

Maybe a oxymoron but would never kill young pups, but no problem with killing mom and dad. Raise poultry all my life and had ever thing from bears to weasels killing them. But the worst predator of all were not only my neighbors dogs but my own dogs. Have almost as many dogs bury in the back yard as coyotes' laying belly up out in the field. And as for the Armadillos leave the dumb things alone, most will be kill crossing the road to get to your lawn anyway.

A few misconceptions here.
First, armadillos eat bugs and grubs. That's what they're digging for.
Second, they are reservoirs for leprosy not rabies.

BTW, I agree with Brit. Kill all the "baby" hogs, coyotes, feral cats, and cottonmouths when you can.

i'm with Brit on this one.

Coyotes often kill or mutilate calves as they are being born. Seen numerous calves with their ears chewed off by coyotes. iI kill coyotes of all sizes.

Wild hogs here are an invasive menace. My theory about reducing the hog populations is this: "Dead pigs don't become hogs". So far this year i've killed over 150 small pigs. Simply sit in a blind overlooking a feeder and pop them with a semi-auto .22 LR.

When I run across piglets, they make fine grill fillers. Armadillos are OK as long as they stay out of the yard and gardens. They don't gang up on the family pets and kill them just because they can. They don't tear open chicken coops and kill a whole roost of chickens and leave them laying without eating them. Hogs are good to eat, and as much damage as they can do, still have a useful function. That comparison is not a valid argument.

Never meant my comment to be construed as an argument..

Sorry if it seemed that way Stoney, it was not intended to be argumentative. I just wanted to clarify for those who don't know or understand the nature of the beast. They are not the cute cuddly little critters our closely related dogs are. Yes they do help control the rodent population, yes they do need to be kept clear of human habitations and livestock.

I do not mind foxes. Coyotes get no mercy whether adult or new born. Our Coyotes here in the east are wolf hybrids and have different hunting habits and seek out larger prey than their western cousins. They hunt in packs and will rip apart stray dogs, deer, livestock, etc. The only benefit is fewer groundhogs in the fields. Kill them on sight, they get harder to kill as they get older. Attacks on humans are reported here every few months and the frequency is increasing. A New York idiot owns a huge tract of land nearby and allows no hunting. Folks who live on adjoining land have seen packs of 8 to 10 run down deer. It isn't pretty especially with this twit making a 1,200 acre haven for them. We had a fence put up around our back yard so our dogs can be out safely. Varmint hunters kill dozens here every year and the population keeps growing. Had 3 taken in my hay field last fall.

Never saw a coyote but we have foxes galore around here. I could easily remove them with my .22 but I leave them alone. The foxes keep the groundhogs in check and personally Id rather see the world rid of those filthy creatures than foxes. I despise groundhogs and they get an instant death sentence when they enter my property.
