Heck, I'd pull the nipples, drizzle in some powder, and shoot it out. Or at least give it a try. I remember long ago, someone had a bore brush stuck and was able to shoot it out. You won't need much powder.
If it not on the powder you have a barrel obstruction. Goes PIA I have a mess here to a real bad day very fast.

Umm. The name is Zonie. Not Zombie :(

Zonie is the name given to Arizonians who visit Southern California by the people in LA and San Diego. They use it as a derisive term. I wear it as a statement of pride. :D

Sorry, just realized the typo was in my response, not just the one I thought was zo funny.
I know the name and what it means. Darn autocorrect takes over sometimes.

Brokennock comes back as Broken Nickel in autocorrect .... Autocorrect can be a big help. Creates some bloopers, but believe it helps more than it hurts. Without it many of us type gibberish, and there is more than enough gibberish to go around already. Believe it should automatically be turned and an option to be turn off.... buried about three screens deep. Maybe something for our Zombie moderator to investigate. Rummer has it he is auditioning as an extra on the Walking Dead. If he he makes the cut I’m wondering if flintlocks don’t become the weapon of choice this season? I’ll ask the bride for a report.

Not with 3 grains of powder. If you pour in 40 grains or so, THEN you have an obstruction. If you're paranoid about it, dribble in the powder and pound down the dowel. I don't see a problem with a small amount of powder...treat it like a dryball.

Ok, but one must remember that there us a relatively thin barrel wall thickness with a double barrel shotgun. It will not withstand the pressure spike a heavier barrel would.

I like Zonie's solution, except that I would hang the barrels vertical so that any excess would run toward the muzzle.

BTW, definition of an engineer is someone who can build for a dollar what any damfool can put together for two.

Don't know what size of dowel you have, but a lot of stuff like that can be pulled by just using a bore brush. The bristles on the brush end up bent towards the muzzle, so when you back it out, it grabs the item pretty good. I have pulled out stuck bore brushes from muzzleloaders by just sticking another one down the bore and pulling.

Zirck fitting and grease equals one big mess. No progress.

Yep, but it sure gets recommended a lot for getting stuff out of barrels that are not supposed to be there and grease pushed stuff does not go through walls.

Yup. The grease method of getting things out of the barrel works very well if whatever is plugging the barrel is a tight fit in the bore. The problem in this case is, the dowel is not a tight fitting thing. That's why I didn't recommend it.

The "shoot it out with a few grains of powder" idea also works and it could do the job if the grease method has not been done yet.

Half the powder will blow around the paper. The bore isn't sealed well enough to generate a lot of pressure. I shot a full length rod out one time because the jag and patch got hung in the worn out chamber of an original shotgun I was cleaning. I used just what I could dribble under the nipple and flash channel. The thing just went "floomp" and shot the rod out of sight up on a hill. Made kind of a shrill whistle as it went!!
An air compressor that can vent rapidly enough might do the same thing.
Common sense would dictate doing it outdoors.
The bore brush idea sounds like it might work. A small caliber bore brush might twist down beside the paper and grab it enough to pull out.

Thanks, Zombie, uh, I mean Zonie. I was wondering what zonie stood for. Now I know! Kinda like being called a "redneck" from the south which I am.

In my experience with stuck dowel there is not a complete seal or there is a weak spot in the seal that the grease oozes thru with no movement of the dowel.

Well, the powder suggestion may not work, but I think it will. If it doesn't, try something else. My suggestion is by far the easiest and least expensive effort to try, taking maybe 5 minutes and costing only a percussion cap and a few grains of powder.

Much of the same arguments against it were made with the stuck bore brush a few years back, and it shot out quite easily.

What I meant is that there shouldn't be an excess pressure spike. Any excess pressure(if there is any) will be lost around the sandpaper.

What is diameter of dowel rod? Is it small enough you could drill a hole in a bigger one and slip it over the smaller one with bit of epoxy? The dowel broke but most likely did not put so much pressure on the paper that it wont pull out. For that matter have you tried a wire hook?

Bang, you get a QP doll for suggesting the wire.
I got a coat hanger, straightened it out, then bent a small hook on it.

A couple passed and out it came.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We now return to your regular scheduled programming.

Glad it was easy.
