FYI, I did find these while staggering around the Internet a few weeks back.

Kinda’ expensive, but I automatically had visions of a .177 cal Muzzleloader!

It would take a small ram rod, but it’d be cool...

By the way 2 ozs of bbs in a 16 gauge is a pretty good stack of bbs!

Which oddly enough patterned better with small charges of fffg vs 100 grn plus loads of ffg or Fg.

Ummm..but wouldn't that totally completely disregard the whole point of NON- LEAD shot?

Ummm....couple of more questions and considerations here. First off, there are lead shot replacements that not only mimmick lead, but are available in traditional shotgun waterfowl cartridge sizes.

Now, I don't know what they cost, but I'll bet the OP doesn't either. More importantly, yeah, bb's are cheap, but.....how much shot and money are you really gonna be out? Do you shoot that much?

Remember, you are on a forum that can buy up your excess. Have a blessed day.

I buy what is called Smart Shot Excite. It is BB's that are marketed, packaged and intended for BB guns. However, these are copper coated lead. The idea with these is that they are called "low ricochet". My boys use them in air guns. They work great in my smoothbores too and I don't have to buy a 25# bag of big shot.

My reply didn’t have anything too do with the NON _ LEAD shot...

In was in reply to the OP's question starting on post # 14.

The pic on the lead bb's was just FYI .

Just incase that anyone who could legally use bb size shot for hunting ,and was worried about copper coated steel bb's causing damage to their barrel.

I shot this load testing for a turkey/coyote load.

I discovered while testing various powder and load configurations that it wasn't legal to use in Tennessee for hunting , so that ended my testing.

However it did work well out of my gun, and I did not see any damage to the bore.

Nor did the barrel bulge or blow up!

It's still hard for my weak mind to understand how 110 grns of fg or 100 grns of ffg or 60 to 80 grns of fffg could possibly cause any damage to a gun with an opening of .653 at the muzzle end of the barrel and an enlarged vent opening..

But I'm not a rocket scientist... but no disrespect meant to those who are.

I'm not understanding what your asking...

True there are a lot of lead shot replacements , But I thought the question being ask was concerning bb's.

As for the cost, I was doing a test on bb's to be used for hunting it makes more sense to me to buy bb's instead of lead bb sized shot, I have no local sporting goods stores that even carry bulk shot.
And with the shipping cost it made more sense to me to buy and use bb's.

I don't shoot shot that much at all, mostly round balls and from my rifle.

I would think the cost of shipping any excess lead a person had would make selling any amount all most impossible on the forum ... unless you just gave it away.

Every day that I awake and I'm still above ground is a Blessed Day IMHO..

I hope your day will be Blessed as well.

Hopefully Tn. will never make lead shot illegal, But if they do I'll be looking for alternative loading material.

Good info Spark, Thanks

Where in TN do you reside? I live in eastern Tennessee and did not know that steel bb's were illegal. Thank you for the info. Guess I'll stick to lead bb's until they make lead illegal. Hope yer day is blessed as well.

Rusty, I'm West of Nashville about 70 miles as the crow flies,

I wouldn't use the BB size lead either.

It's not a lead or steel issue, It's the shot size.

When I was doing the testing I looked up what was legal too shoot turkeys with,
The rule was #4 shot and smaller.

It may still be legal for Coyote, but I'm not sure.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Okay, I get it now that you mentioned the shot size. It's not whether or not it's steel or lead, but rather the size of the shot. I guess 177 sized pellet rifle bb's do not qualify as proper size for turkey. If I ever get another shot at a coyote, I'll shoot it with my .50 cal flintlock as I presently don't own a shotgun. My dad is gonna leave me his shotgun when he passes on and he's 93 now. Of course I'd rather have my pop around than his shotgun!

Guys, if you shoot real steel shot just use something to protect the barrel. If you doubt that then just call the people who made the barrel or gun. 99.9% will tell you to use a protective shot cup.

Bismuth shot is easy to drop just like lead. Mine is dropped using a 95% bis 5% tin ratio. Kills just like lead. I also cast .595 bismuth round balls for all my 20 ga's. Casting bullets or RB's to use in non-lead hunting areas is easy. If bismuth shot is legal in CA and it is then RB's made of the same material should be legal. Check first though.

On the shotgun with the nipple issue:
1. Nipple was blown out and the threads were gone. Threads were in good shape as was the gun in a well maintained state. Nipple was snugged in tight but not over tightened. Left barrel never had an issue. This was an early 1981 Navy Arms made in Spain. I have never had a problem with any of the more modern Pedersoli's even when I shot Hevi Shot 12, 13 or TSS but I always used a Steel type shot cup to protect the barrel. Now I mainly shoot the bismuth I make which does not require protective shot cups.

Shoot safe and have fun.

Yeah guys, I did a quick search and found a box of 25 non-lead 12 ga. for like $17. Cut 'um open and go to town.

There have been discussions saying that using the plastic cups can be pretty detrimental in muzzlerloaders....but that's a different can of worms.
