Oh Yeah,
20190316_153449.jpg 20190316_150059.jpg

Made with leftover mashed potatoes, sugar, flour, salt, baking powder, eggs, and,,,, the best part,,,,,, hot fat.

Sicily has a yeasted doughnut recipe containing mashed potatoes and flour. Fried in Olive oil and rolled in sugar or dipped in honey.

There is a shop near where I live they make there doughnuts with potato flakes, You have to stand in line for a bit to get them but they are worth the wait. It is off the main street and down a alley, Well referred to as fat girl alley. Glad the shop is not too close or we would have to change the name of the ally to fat boy.

That's interesting because I got the recipe, and the childhood memories of my grammie making them, from the old Berkshire yankee side of the family. My mom's side of the family has been here since New York was New Amsterdam, and has been in the Berkshire hills of Massachusetts for more generations than I've tracked yet. But, my dad's family is from Sicily, and only 3 generations ago.

Yum! Recipe?

You're on your own with the handwriting. You'll notice a slightly different hand in between "...roll it out." and "...roll dough 3/8"," These are notes we made from another family recipe. Basically the difference being the addition of nutmeg and/or cinnamon (not needed I think) and letting the dough rest after cutting
I do recommend staying on the thin side of the 3/8"

Why is it everything that taste really great is not great for you?
Because the taste buds are designed for us humans to be doing lots of active chores, not sitting at the computer desk. Eat that stuff, hike five miles and split a cord of wood, and you'll be fine (and skinny).

Real Fastnachts are made of yeast and potato in the dough, then fried and sugared. Some parts of the country call it Shrove Tuesday in this German settled place, it is still Fastnacht day. There is also a special type of sweet yeast bread made in a round loaf with crumbs on top called Moravian cake. Also has potato and wheat flour. http://www.alanskitchen.com/PENN_DUTCH/Bread/Moravian_Sugar_Cakes.htm

And then we have potato candy. About two table spoons of mashed potatoes and a pound of confectioners sugar, and teaspoon vanilla. Mix into a roll out dough consistency and then roll it out and spread with peanut butter. Roll it up and refrigerate an hour, cut it into pin wheels about a 1/4 inch thick and place on a platter and put in refrigerator again. Taste a lot like fudge.

Above questioned why the yummys are bad for ya? Not SURE but I think its a lack of exercise. An NBA player eats 5K calories a day and they stay thin? If ya work hard all the day ya get rewarded by yummies without fear.

Jim Fixx, author of The Complete Book of Running, got home from his daily run and keeled over. The autopsy showed he had one coronary artery blocked 95%, a second 85%, and a third 70%.

Yep. When yer numbers called its off with ya! My brother was a fat guy, I suggested he start running. He replied that the Good Lord gave him only a certain number of heart beats and wasn't wasting none of em on running!

Still.... if we walked/hiked/biked for 30-60 min a day we could eat alot more donuts and burrito's. I shall begin again "soon".
