Not to mention the guy wearing it, I bet the people in the 1850's would end up with a double hernia from laughing at anyone carrying a Walker around in a holster like that.

To begin with, holsters like that weren't popular before 1865 and the Walker was made to be carried in saddle holsters, not worn on the hip.

Unless you are portraying Augustus McCrea.

Every single one of my brass doo-dads I use in my BP shooting looks like it's about a hundred years old. My BP revolvers also look like they are used - not tatty, but used and cared for. Have you EVER shot that Walker, or used any of the accessories?

Well no, I have not shot the Walker yet, (that is self evident from the pictures huh!) As I stated in my intro, I am NEW to black powder shooting. I am 65 years old, have been shooting since my teens. A have a rather large gun collection, some shooters, some collectors, some C&R. I have shot SASS for many years.
I get it that there are traditionalist shooters on this forum OK. Yes, the Walker was a horse pistol, I know that. I'm not trying to be a reenactor here. I'm just going to shoot the revolver off my back deck, maybe dress up Cowboy if I feel like it. Maybe go a little Josey Wales.
The belt is 4" wide and tappers to 3." It wears like a weight belt, I have no problem packing it around long enough to have some fun on the back deck. If that is a crime, then I'm guilty!
I was always told that the black powder shooting community were a great bunch of folks, helpful to newbies, always ready to share, guide and welcome new folks to the fun of black powder shooting. Much like SASS is. I still believe that. For you die hard traditionalist, enjoy, do your own thing, and God bless. As for me, I'm not trying to re-invent myself as Jeremiah Johnson.
Besides, the new holster is a BIG improvement over my previous one! Har har har!

Whats with the clean horse feeding bucket in front of the no-no bullet chart???

Plugged Nickel,
It's a nice Walker, you are enjoying your gear, and having fun. Thanks for sharing all that. Now take that cannon out and get some powder burns on it, and show us some pictures of what you were shooting at. (Paper targets will be fine. Pics of Josie all blood and gore will upset some of the anti-hunters who are also members in good standing.) And note what your load is - roundball/conical, blackpowder granulation and weight/volume, real blackpowder if it's available to you. And maybe vary some loads - light charge cf heavy charge as to accuracy. And load some 60 grain charges, so you can tell us how much fun it was to shoot a real hand cannon!!

Go have some FUN. Then share with us. Just be careful...hang around here too long, and you may get hooked into period re-enacting...may. Not all of us have the time, or money, or maybe the drive.

I like your holster rig, I sometimes carry my Walker in a cross draw holster when I’m out wandering around my place, there not as bad to carry as some make it out to be but then again I’m 6’5 260 so it kinda fits me I guess, ain’t never had nobody point n laugh at it n say, hey where’s your horse either LOL, get out and shoot it, it’s an awesome gun, I do enjoy plinking with mine when I get the chance.

Thanks. I will try to have Betty get some pictures of me when I shoot it, so I can shre. I will shoot Swiss FFFg in it. Some 60 grain loads just for fun as well. I will be shooting .457” soft lead Hornady round ball. Remington #10 caps on SlixShot stainless steel nipples.

Nice looking Walker. I like your leather, it looks clean... not loaded with junk, and functional.
The Walker is fun to shoot. It does have an appetite for powder. I dialed my charges back to 45-55 gr. It could probably go a little lighter and not suffer much for accuracy.

Thanks, I liked it for those very reasons. The belt design was taken from the type worn by seamen in the 1700-1800, to carry cutlass, heavy knife and other kit like single shot bp pistols etc. This per the makers web site.

Two years ago, the Hungarian champion shooter, Gyula Mészáros, shot his Pedersoli Walker into the history books with a load of just 30gr of Swiss #2. See how he did it here -

If the Walker looks small in his hands, remember that he is 6ft 8in, and built like Thor.

If you haven't seen the channel, capandball, then you are really missing out on the sheer fun enjoyed by Bálasz Németh and his fascinating look at the BP world - he is, by the way a current and former WC in a number of BP disciplines, as well as a national champion. He and his brother run a mainly BP-oriented gun store in Budapest - kapszli.hu. Need a perfect replication of a Remington paper cartridge box? They have 'em, among a ton of other stuff.

Nice looking outfit.
Thanks. The Walker is heavy, but I don't find it too bad to hold out, I'm 6' and 195 pounds. I figure if the actress that played Mattie, could handle that "Colt Dragoon," misnamed by Marshal Rooster Cogburn, since it was in fact a Walker she held, I can do OK with it. I tuned up the action so the trigger pull is 2-2.5 pounds, action is very smooth now. It should be a hoot to shoot. My wife got me this revolver for our anniversary. I have had it for several months. I didn't want to shoot it till I slicked up the action and shimmed the arbor. I've had that done for more than a month, but my wife took sick with a lingering migraine that put here down for about 10 days. And, I have been busy with chores and the Golden Retriever.
I hope to shoot it soon. Heck, I've shot SASS in sub-zero weather before, so I should be OK on the back deck for some shooting.
I've been collecting BP revolvers, and I have an 1861 Springfield, for at least 10 years now. Planned on getting into shooting them when I retired, which I have.
Here are some pictues of them:

BTW, the 1851 Navy is a Pietta in .36 caliber. I know there are 1851 Navy's that are brass frame and .44 caliber. While these are not historically correct in .44 caliber, they are easier on the wallet than steel framed 1851, and there are those that shoot them and like them. I don't plan on shooting the 1851 Navy. I got it for $160.00 with a spare cylinder included from Taylor's & Company. The 1861 Navy is also .36 caliber, as is the 1862 Pocket Navy. Both are also Colt Black Powder Firearms, Signature Series 2nd Generation revolvers.
I like Colt Single Action revolvers, both black powder and smokeless powder.
