I've been checking on the R.E. Davis web page, and
seven of their locks are labeled in red On Hold, including their French fusil lock. What's up with that? Anybody know? I had been hoping to use that lock in a French trade gun of one sort or another. I hope this is just some sort of a supply hiccup due to R&D and not a portent

Why do you think the forum members would know more than the company?

Why do people post these things instead of contacting the company in question?

I suppose because often, someone will have already found out what the answer is.

Another forum member may have even talked directly to the manufacturer on the telephone and have a lot more information than the company would give out in a E-Mail.

Kidding aside, I sent 'em an email earlier today.

Maybe members feel more comfortable asking friends first before calling the company. Folks should feel comfortable asking questions here. They shouldn't be subjected to salty remarks.

It's always possible that somebody who actually works for the company might happen to be a member of the forum. Such things do happen on other forums with other interests. Make sense?

I know I waited 24 months for a backordered RE Davis tradegun lock. I was told there was a transition of ownership and problems with transferring of the making of that particular lock to a new maker. Not everybody at these lock companies works "in house". Can't say if there are problems for other locks.

Sure, you could take that chance, but if you contact the company, you know you'll get someone who works there.

I was putting a gun together with the mortise pre-cut for that lock. I got one from another supplier. The lock manufacturer name changed, too, but it was the same lock.

The lock is no longer made, therefore you won't get one... How I know, I personally spoke with him.

At the moment he's trying to source another builder for this particular lock. I literally live minutes away from him and he's a spectacular guy to deal with. It's nothing "up" with him or his business. He takes care of his customers, that's a fact.

On the other hand understand if a maker in this hobby decides to stop making something, it likely will effect everyone. It's not a huge market, therefore supply and demand can be a pain at times.

Thanks. I have it all taken care of. Track of the Wolf has a new French fusil lock which is assembled using Jim Chambers internals. AFAIK it seems to be the most authentic looking lock barring those from the Rifle Shoppe.

The TOW lock is wonderful. Probably 99% correct. I've had three on backorder since July. No French gunlocks has forced me to build a rifle. A very short rifle......
