I ordered a sear over the phone from therifleshoppe. I was told they had it in stock and it would be mailed out. That was about 3weeks ago and I haven't seen anything from them. I have tried to call at every time of day, every day they are open and have yet to get an answer- usually the message box is full too. Anybody out there ever deal with this company? Is there a trick I should know?

The wait is not unusual. E-mailing them, if you have not tried that, may work. Several years ago a guy from Australia posted the same comment you did - on a different forum - about not getting what he ordered and inability to reach them. I e-mailed the company for him and they did reply and he did get his order shortly afterward. That was probably a fluke but you should e-mail them. I agree with Hawkeye that ordering from them requires patience.

Dealt with them? Most of the experienced/immersed people here have bought from Jess for decades for sure and many try to avoid them based on their reputation. Good, unique, stuff, but...

Patience. Yes. Now, you did the right thing asking if the part you wanted was in stock -- that's half the battle and the days you might have thought it will take will only be weeks... if they were correct. They are truthful I believe, except for saying the Newtown Musket was a matchlock (it was a snaphaunce first) but are awful business people... The worst!

Getting a hold of them? LOL Getting the right part? The first time -- really!? Being told they sent it to you already when they didn't? Good chance.

Good luck.

Like buying from my good ol' boy friend at TVM, I wish you could always see, hold, the item in person before you gave them any money not to have any issues...

I have one gun made by them that took 12 years to get finished. That probably isn't the record, but it could be.

From all I've heard about The Rifle Shop You couldn't pay me to order from them, They never answer phone calls, and some people have waited 2 years for their parts. I think they just don't care about the customer but for some reason they are still in business :idunno: . They must sell enough of the regular stuff to keep going.

I bought something from them once, but I made sure they had it in stock first (otherwise you might be waiting literally years). They told me it would ship out the next day. Two weeks later I still didn't have it, so I called them again. They informed me it hadn't shipped yet (no reason was given) but they said (again) they would take care of it the next day. This time I had it a week later.

It seems you can't take them at their word when they say it will ship immediately. You have to keep on them until they do it. All I can suggest is keep trying to call or email them.

Also, what I got looked very different from the picture on the website, but that was not really a problem in my case so I was okay with it.

Also everything is 2 weeks out, until 2 years have gone by, and they will not answer the phone. Just check the Web on how they treat people.

I use their catalog to see what the locks or parts
look like and make my own. Faster and cheaper and
no nerves involved...I don't have a any patience with that sort.....

Now adays there is no excuse for taking that long and I don't have the patients to wait when I have decided on something. I don't have to have it yesterday but I do expect a reasonable amount of time and they need to be dependable. I don't know how a company like that can stay in business these days with the information available.

Jumpshot's experience is probably the most common encountered when ordering parts that are supposedly "in stock". And it will take at least one additional phone call or email. Usually at least three-four weeks before you receive it.
It should be noted that TRS ships only on Fridays. It's my understanding that the whole operation is run by only a handful of people. So, there's no telling where you are in line even for shipping. A collector friend of mine use to live in Sherman, TX and was a personal friend of the Owner. A couple of his guns were even used as original prototypes. But even he had to drive to Oklahoma City to pick up his parts. He said it's the only way he could be sure of getting all and the correct parts. :haha:
He now lives in Atlanta and has to undergo the same issues as the rest of us. :(
I've often wondered if TRS has ever figured out how much business they could receive by just doing completed flintlock - locks only - with a 90 day turn-around? There is simply no possible way they could STOCK every lock/part/kit in their Catalog and turn a profit. Manufacturing 101.
Anyway, I'll quit rambling on here. I DO plan on trying to order a completed Spanish musket lock next week. I'll report back and let y'all know how that worked out. Assuming I can even get someone to answer the phone. :haha: Rick. :hatsoff:

Hi Wulf!!! This is a good opportunity to say THANKS AGAIN for making that Top Screw for me. I'm sure I would not have received it from TRS. Or, it would be the wrong part. :haha: Thanks again. The Top Screw is a dead-ringer for the one in their catalog. You are a most accomplishe machinist. Rick. :hatsoff:

Ah shucks......But thanks for remembering
Wulf

OK! This is an English Lock from Leonard Day. The first photo shows the Top Screw the way it came with the lock, which is probably authentic.
For some reason, I thought the Top Screw from the English Snaphaunce lock shown in TRS catalog would look even better. But I was pretty sure the Top Screw would not be in stock, and might be a different thread size. Since TRS catalog has full size photos of the Lock, Wulf was able to somehow transduce from the photo and make me an exact copy, with the desired thread size. Unbelievable! You hold up the finished Screw to the photo in the catalog and it's a clone. It's a little longer than needed. But that's because I forgot to tell Wulf the length I needed. I can always shorten it. But I deceided to leave it alone. Makes the Lock look more, well...contraptionalized. :haha: Rick. :hatsoff:

Darned nice work, and useful. I have (a) gun(s) with a screw like that. Can't remember... 1590 snaphaunce? Hmmm...

Well”¦. I will say it again; I have only good luck when I order from them.

The longest it has every taken was three weeks to get what I ordered.

Yes they are hard to get ahold of on the phone, never takes me more than three tries.

I think they screen their calls.
I leave a message, tell I want to place an order, they check who I am and
next time I call they answer.
They know that I am not calling just to gripe and whine.

Yes if you want something that they don’t have on hand it can be a very looooooong time.
Yes if your dead set on any one thing, your life can be very frustrating.

In my case the good service I get is because I ask them what they have on hand.

I don’t care what it is, I like it all, I do enough business, I make enough stuff that it’s all good stock.

It’s what I do and it works very well for me. At the very least it’s good trading stock.

I still buy from them.
I am going to call them next week, I don’t know what I will order till I find out what they have on hand.

I know that’s not much help for most of you but if you want something you can’t get, there is a fantastic wealth of talent on this forum that can make most anything.

Just don’t be in a hurry for it.

It’s not a requirement that you agree with me. I think this way because it makes me money.

Must be really easy for them to screen calls when you're the only one they'll accept calls from! :blah:

From what I have read, you might be right.

It is from what I have read here and elsewhere that is why I do business with them the way I do.

I did get a good laugh from your comment, thanks.
Always enjoy your posts.

Ricky, I agree, the screw in the bottom photo does look better.
