I am considering ordering a musket kit from TRS before long. Does anyone have any recent experience with them on delivery times, shipping orders complete when requested, etc.? By all accounts I am aware of, their parts quality is pretty high. Also, when an "assembled lock" is ordered, do they do a good job on these as well? _ Sincerely, Smoothshooter

thier assembled locks as of late have been fair, parts/castings also. The last stock /barrel inlet sucked most terribly.if it had come from anyone else I'd sent it back. i you want it in a halfway timely manner, ask if ALL the parts are in stock. If not, its a manure shoot as to when you could get them. good luck to you.

You are not alone in your pain. i have a customer who after waiting two years for a parts set was told they could not find someone to make a 51" o/r barrel.i had on in proper dimension to them in three weeks.that was a year or so ago.
Like i said, if they have it in stock.youll probably see it. I just ordered castings for a 57"barreled fusil and was told they would ship soon with the other two fusil parts sets. We'll see........... :idunno:

I'm still waiting on lock castings that were "coming in from the foundry next month" and I'd "have in a few weeks" in April of 2011.

:shocked2:

you could make one outta metal yourself by now! I would want my $$ back and go elsewhere....

wow!

I ordered a main spring for a Tower lock, sometime last year. After talking with them on the phone (nice folks) and sending the order form in with my credit card # along with a scan to scale of the spring needed, I'm still waiting. My credit card was never charged so either they didn't have the spring or the order was lost in the mail. I found a spring on eBay and the lock is back in operation so no problem there. If the spring comes in I'll have a spare.

Doing business wit TRS can be a real challenge.
Just last week my gunsmith just received a set of Brown Bess thimbles that were ordered 8 months ago. When he got word that they were finally going to ship, he asked them if they would include a hammer screw (for a different gun) that supposedly was in stock. Well, the thimbles showed up, but it was the wrong screw. The screw was even three times too small. He just made a new screw for it rather than try and get the matter fixed.
In another case it took me THREE trys just to get a correct top screw - for their own lock!!
A collector friend of mine that use to live in Dallas and would drive the 3 1/2 hours to Jones, OK to get his parts. Since then, he has moved to Atlanta. Keep in mind this guy knows the owner of TRS personally. He had a stock that was finished, and sitting there for 4 months, just because no one wanted to box it up and ship it. He eventually had to DRIVE from Atlanta to Jones to pick up his stock and other parts. While there, he said he purchased $1,500.00 worth of parts that were in stock.
A couple years ago while the same friend was at the TRS, he called me and said that Spanish Miquelet lock I always wanted - that all the parts were in stock. So I immediately ordered the lock COMPLETED, and received it in one week. And the lock was done correctly. I just got lucky my friend was standing right there at the moment, and the Owner assured him the lock would be done and shipped that week. Again, just luck.
As mentioned by others above, it's a real manure shoot getting what you want. If they say it's not even in stock, I don't even bother to order.
Good luck in your quest. Rick. :idunno:

I have recently ordered two parts sets from TRS. The first was a 1795 Springfield musket with stock and assembled lock. That took one year and four months from date of order to receive. The lock was well assembled, but all parts needed final finishing. All other parts looked good. In June of 2012, I also ordered a parts set for a 1756 Brown Bess with stock and assembled lock. I'm still waiting on that one. My experience with TRS is that their parts are quite nice, but be prepared to wait months, if not years.

Waited 2yrs for a hammer casting for an old Potsdam 1836 musket.
I had given up on it the year before and the musket just languished in the closet as a "someday" project.
Nobody else would even venture a guess where to get one.
I got a letter from the guy that ordered it for me (whom had closed his shop) that said
"you'll never guess what I got."

It fit.
