I punch paper and gongs with a Pedersoli Lepage in .31. It's won a lot of matches for me, but it's essential to have a spotter watching the gongs, because that little ball will barely wiggle the heavier ones. My first ml pistol was a CVA Kentucky .45. I found that wrapping the grip with buckskin stopped the roll back. I usually used 15 gr. fff for target shooting out to 50 yd. Double that just hits harder and makes more noise at that range.
