I took a few pics of what my family refers to as “Old Turk”, my great great grandfathers buffalo gun. He brought to the land he settled in Kansas in 1854, from Indiana. It has stampings of H. Thompson & Co on the side of the barrel, the lock is marked with T. Davidson & Co. There are also marks on top of the barrel of “S.P.R.” and “W.TURK” Here are some of the pics…
Old Turk
I'm just trying to figure out who made the gun. I'm not sure if the gun was originally a flint lock and converted to percussion or if some of the marks may be initials of the owner. I've found info on H. Thompson & co and T. Davidson & Co. I see there was a J. Turk in the OH area, but not found a W. Turk as a gun maker, but have seen another gun auctioned with the same stamp. I'm not sure what the S.P.R. initials are either.
Thank you for taking a look and any info you may have.
