A friend recently acquired a bowie knife with a thin flimsy sheath, and asked if I could make a more durable sheath. His interest is in the Southwest and in particular Texas frontier history. I gave it a hint of Mexican influence. I tried to talk him out of the snap for a more HC retainer, but he wants what he wants. Made of 9 oz oak tanned leather. Should hold up better than the cheap sheath it will replace.

Nice leather work -- and like you have said that snap loop handle retainer is the worst thing on that knife sheath. It will be cut off in no time by accident when he removes or replaces his knife from or back into that sheath.:dunno::doh::ghostly:;)
