    help!!! stuck jag

I got it out! Took the gun to a machine shop and had the vent removed. Used a grease gun to pump out the obstruction. Thanks for all the advice guys, I am truly relieved to have that out of the barrel. Now, does anyone have any suggestions on getting the grease out of the barrel? Thanks again.

    help!!! stuck jag

This is really getting frustrating. I tried to use an air compressor to blow the patch and jag out, no luck. Air blew around the obstruction. I tried to remove the breach, no luck. The vent liner is threaded into the breach (patent breach). I even tried the fish hook and line but there is not...

Thanks for the response, I can not get the vent liner out, I have tried, it seems that the builder wanted it to stay put. What is a Zerk fitting?

    help!!! stuck jag

Help!!! After a day at the range I was cleaning my flintlock and the somehow the cleaning jag broke off from the cleaning rod (the threads are in the rod, the jag is in the barrel) The jag has a water soaked patch on it. Does any one have any ideas on how to get this thing out? Thanks in...

    help finding parts

Thanks for the ideas, I think I will try the process Zonie describes, the worst that can happen is I mess up an already messed up tumbler. I am pretty confident in my ability. My only concern is that there is not enough metal left on the tumblers notch, even if I file the notch deeper and file...

    help finding parts

Thanks for the ideas, I don't know why I hadn't thought of it myself. Once I get the tumbler and hammer off the lock plate I will try and fit the TC tumbler I have and see if it will work. I will keep you updated.

    help finding parts

Please help! I found an old Miroku hawken (Sears and Roebuck)hanging up in an old cabin and in need of a lot of attention. The first problem is that the full cock notch on the tumbler is so badly worn that it won't stay cocked! Does anyone know where I can find a new tumbler for this lock. I...

    Yard Sale Find

I've got all the parts you need if you still want them (minus the mainspring for the lock which was used in another project). Several years ago I bought one at pawn shop cheap. I removed the breach without removing the nipple drum, incredibly stupid mistake. Anyhow the parts aren't any good to...

    stock finish help

Okay, I applied some black leather dye and it seemed to do the trick. The wood got a flat black finish and then I rubed it out with steel wool. All of the pores and grain is filled with black. I will apply a few more coats and see what happens. The stock is rosewood or teak or whatever you want...

How iffy to buy used Flinter?

Hey Jabber, I don't think buying a used ML is risky at all, if you take proper precautions. Just make sure to give the gun a good looking over before you buy, that way there are no suprises. Invest in a bore light (I found some cheap bobber lights for fishing that work great) , run a few...

    stock finish help

Thanks for the input. Can you tell me more about spirit based stains? I am looking for a very dark stain, almost black. Is this something I can make by mixing spirits with something, maybe tar?

    stock finish help

I have very limited experiance working with wood and need some help. I started refinishing the stock of an MVTC fowler. I stripped the old finish and stain, trimmed off some wood and sanded. Over a period of 5 days I applied 5 coats of stain (minwax)on the wood (1 a day). I had achieved the...
