    Help needed

Others can correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is probably a late 18th or early 19th century eastern pistol (Turkish?) made from Italian or Spanish pieces (likely pieces from older, obsolete guns).

    1728 French Lock?

Thanks for all of the replies. What is throwing me off now, is the similar (but different) stamp that each lock has on the plate. It's a little fleur-de-lis with an H and L or I and H on either side. Looking at some photos of French locks online and in a few books I have, it appears that (at...

Any opinions? Maybe these aren't even French?

    M1861 Springfield - Sporterized shotgun

Nope, full length barrel. It was rebored into a smoothbore shotgun but the gunsmith maintained the original length. I'd guess the caliber is somewhere around 60cal now? I haven't measured though.

    M1861 Springfield - Sporterized shotgun

Here's a M1861 Springfield that was sporterized into a shotgun sometime post war. The stock was trimmed down, with a small piece of walnut added to the bottom of the barrel to support the rammer - which I assume would have also been wood, considering the large size of the ramrod pipes. It...

    1847 Nippes Reconversion Question

If it is a reconversion, it was very well done! I can't see any evidence of re-filling around the touchhole in the picture you provided... or on the top of the barrel for that matter. The frizzen spring doesn't give me any redflags - it may not be the original spring from the factory, but those...

    1728 French Lock?

Hi, Any experts on French or French style arms that know what this is? I’ve got an old lock plate that looks very similar to a French lock from 1728-1754… but I’m not really sure. I’m thinking of getting rid of the ill fitting Potsdam hammer of restoring it back to its original configuration...

Free design for simple long gun rack using a single piece of plywood.

Good catch! I did adjust the design to fit some smaller rifles when I built it. This design was for long guns specifically, but can be adjusted.

Free design for simple long gun rack using a single piece of plywood.

Yes, muzzle down seems like it could cause it's own problems... I'm not sure all that weight on the barrel or upper stock would be great for longterm storage and durability. I'd be worried that it might cause cracks in the stock.

Free design for simple long gun rack using a single piece of plywood.

Hi all, I built this rack for my collection of muskets a couple of years ago and so far it's served it's purpose pretty well, so I thought I'd share it with the group in case anyone would like to build one. I used one sheet of 3/4in oak plywood and got two racks that hold 7 guns each, although...

    Antique Oiler?

Interesting. I've only seen the one tubular type oiler for the MHs. I did find a very similar one here: http://sellantiquearms.com/shop/iron-oil-bottle-for-cased-set/ Unfortunately no further information though.

    Original Vent Pick ID?

It looks very similar to some originals that I've seen. Could be some other repurposed wire though.

    Original Vent Pick ID?

Hello all, Is anyone able to identify the origins of this vent pick? I'm assuming 19th century, maybe British? Markings are: 75-594 and some other dot. Thanks for looking!

    Antique Oiler?

Hi everyone, I've been trying to figure out exactly what this oiler is - it came in a box of musket parts I bought from another collector, so I assume it's military related - but I'm not sure where or when it's from. The makers mark (found in bottom and lid) is [H]. The only other markings it...

    Matchlock barrels

Here’s an example of one from the East, and possibly from a later period (17th-early 18th centuries). I’ve always liked the fluted appearance of these barrels.

    Forensic Identification for Flintlock Remains

I concur with the other guys, looks like the side plate and trigger guard are possibly from a brown bess (first model) but could be from any sort of "British-ish" musket or fusil. The lock looks to be much later to me... possibly 1820s or 1830s before it was converted to percussion in the...

Colonial era English fusil? A relic

Hi everyone, I picked this old relic up in a collection I bought about a year ago. Looks like it must have been stuck in a very, very damp basement for 200 years. I believe that it's an early English import, but I'm not sure what it may be exactly. The lock is about 6in long with a pretty...
