Tips from the server room - static

It's a good thing when someone can admit there wrong. No matter which side of the fence your on. I think people believe this, because it sounds logical. That don't mean it's correct.

    Kit v. Factory

If you buy a NOS kit you can be pretty sure you getting a new un molested rifle. When you buy used there is no telling what you may get. That being said I'm sure a lot of good used rifles are sold on this site.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

Was only looking at this as an absolute last resort, don't know what damage it may or may not cause. I'm sure it would damage most finishes. After 4 pages I thought we may be there, last resort that is.

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

Don't know if this is advisable or not. Could you heat the barrel with a torch until the lead melted and ran out? Ok let me have it! :dunno:

I understand caliber restrictions on large game, being no smaller then, but not no larger than for small game I don't. What are these officials thinking?

Odd results; bench vs. offhand shooting

Fluke probably. The other day I shot groups with .012, .015 and .018 patches. Shot my best and worst group with the .012. Expected it to be the worst, but not the best also. Sometimes there's just no explaining it.

    Joann's - what am I doing wrong ?

You can get LED bulbs that are the same temp 2700K as incandescent. don't know if they are better or worse. I use one on a small boom and it seems to work ok.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Stopped by Dixons today and found the measure with cap holder in the slide in the used ben. Very nicely made and I never seen one like it before. Had to have it even though I don't often use caps. Maybe I can put 4F in the cap compartment.

"Gun locks, gun locks? We don't need no stinkin' gun locks!"

You should know better than to fire them in the house, even with a blank load.

    Tang bolt drill jig

I've been using drills a lot as a wood stair and railing builder for 40 years. I've built 2 guns lately and every time I try to freehand a hole I screw up. When I use a jig ( I use the drill press setup, but either will work ) thing go fine. In my opinion either of these are invaluable for...

    Barrel shopping

Building a Tenn mt. with A weight 50 cal Rice, that's about as light as you can get in a 42" barrel. Got it together enough so I can hold it up and it feels real good.

    Trigger sear position

Ok got the trigger in and working. It's light and crisp, maybe a little lighter and crisper than I intended, but I'd rather it that way than heavy with a lot of creep. It's very crisp and i think that's because of the angle I filed the flag. I angled it up and away from the pin, had I angled...

    Changing Powder charges on woodswalk.

Don't think there is a right or wrong, it's what works best for you and what you like. I very my load a maybe 10 gr depending if I'm target shooting, hunting, or trying a long shot 100yd or more.

    Tools for building

Nothing I like better than a great old tool from a yard sale or such at a great price. Sadly those great price have come far and few between since our covid debacle. Happy Easter
