    Hammer coming to half cock

    Today, several times the hammer flew back to halfcock when firing. Didn't do it all the time. 60/65 grains 3f shushu with roundball out of my 50 caliber traditions kentucky rifle. Caps are homemade and are a touch hot. Nipple is a hotshot. What normally causes this? Tks.

    Do maxi balls have to be coated with conventional lubes or can they be sprayed with hoppes 9 solvent & patch lube at loading? Will be loaded with an overpowder wad. Tks

    Shortened a barrel

    I need to shorten a hickory ramrod but not sure of proper procedure to remove the brass tip. It doesn't appear to be pinned. Will a heat gun loosen things up? Tks.

    First kit build

    On the lower end of fixed income scale so i opted for this Traditions 50 caliber Kentucky rifle percussion kit for my first build. base model single trigger, no patch box. I’m sure I’ll have some questions. And so it begins!

    Hi from northern West Virginia

    Haven’t shot black powder in 40 years. Retired with nothing but time. Excited to begin shooting again. Inherited an older CVA “Hawken”. It was in need of a good cleaning.
