    Greetings from Oklahoma!

Welcome from just south of Stillwater.

    How old are ya?

76 this week. Been shooting since I was 6. Started hunting with BP about 25 years ago, and in earnest over the past 10 years. Love early fall and the taste of venison. Extending Oklahoma's deer season with a recently-acquired crossbow, but my favorite hunting season is the one reserved for...

    #11 nipple to 209 primer

Yep, MagSpark is an excellent Zippo for still/blind hunting, but fumbling with the fine thread firing-pin cap is a torture all it's own. Makes one really careful with the "first" shot! They do work quite well at lighting the fire.

New CCI #11 caps work just fine

FWIW... until I comitted heresy and installed a 209 primer attachment to my .54, all I ever used from the late 1990s up until last fall was CCI caps. Never had a problem with any going bang. Didn't "whack the stock" right during loading once in the last days of Oklahoma's late-year antlerless...

    Bacon Grease

Thanks to all who replied. My bacon grease is being combined with rolled oats and milo for winter bird feeding. Happy New Year!

    Caliber designation

I may have missed a lot here, but what is the significance of the caliber designation on our forum IDs?

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Welcomed the New Year by unloading my .54 Traditions White Tail since the last day of Oklahoma’s antlerless season closed at sundown and I didn’t see anything as of sundown. Today it’s cleanup time.

    Bacon Grease

Wow... a great discussion and many posts make me hungry! I appreciate it. Just thought I had a resource that might lend itself to something in the ML affliction. Guess I'll just keep trying to feed it to the birds with rolled oats on wintery days. As for me and my house, I lube patches with a...

    Bacon Grease

Been saving bacon grease from microwaving strips for breakfast. Currently storing in a lidded plastic gallon icecream container. What are some good uses for this product in muzzle loading? And...Merry Christmas to all of you! You are a valued set of folks in my life. Dan

    New from Oklahoma

Welcome from near Stillwater. Took a little buck with my Traditions Whitetail .54 during MZ season. You’ll enjoy this site.

    Yes, a 45 caliber will kill a 15 point buck…

Great hunt! Nice buck, beautiful TC.

    Oklahoma BP Season

Yep, would like to take a doe before BP season ends Sunday. Just love being in the woods this time of year regardless of what's going on. RE: Points... well yeah I can see that. Not caring much for "horn hunting" I just see a single on one side and an abberation on the other (and extra care in...

    Oklahoma BP Season

Nope, I like my locks on the side and my barrels blue. Thanks! I have to admit, after a cap failure last season that cost me a doe, I am lighting up my Pyrodex with a 209 primer. But, it's still a blued gun with a side lock and "primitive" sights. Will try the homemade dressing topping you...

    Oklahoma BP Season

Finally got to the blind today after 5 days of hacking and coughing and taking care of my wife who has the same thing. About 5 minutes before sunrise, about 20 yards out this guy and a .54 PRB met suddenly. While unimpressive rack, the little spike was in perfect health, great liver for onion...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Did some short range, 25-yards, comparison of PRB vs. mini-ball I’d cast. 70 gr. Pyrodex for both .54 projectiles. Bench rest groups still show me PRB is preferable in my rifle (1:48) with cloverleafs vs. about 4” groups for the minis. Fun to experiment. Deer season for BP coming up the 28th...

    August Postal Match

Gary, I take it "postal match" actually means "post" images of one's targets on this site by end of August? (Don't see anything about sending targets by USPS so I figured we've technologied ourselves away from the Postal Service). Am I right? Got a 9 year old grandson new to MZ shooting and I...
