    Long Land Pattern Muskets

My friend bought a Loyalist long land Bess. It doesn't look to bad, personally I would scrape it down and refinish it with linseed oil but thats me. The only problems he has had with it are ignition, letting me play with it and hitting the target  (sorry buddy couldn't resist), the...

Do you take your lock off with every cleaning

If I was using it for reenacting, I do take the lock of when I clean it. The reason is when loadign as fast as I can the pan often will be overprimed resulting in large amounts of fouling all over the lock. Mkui Medal Guerre Abenakis

    Thinkin' about a Tomahawk

I found the Beaver Bill throwing hawks to be a bit lite for my taste the blade on my buddys bent from throwing and we had trouble getting it to hold a edge. I would go with a H&B (my personal throwing hawk is a standard HB) they are nice and strong and I find mine throws great, however it is a...

    Shooting blanks

When where reenacting we use only powder, If I'm loading slowly I'll pour the powder down then slap the musket near the breech to settle the powder (makes more noise) Keeping the powder in isn't to much of a problem just keep the muzzle up (you really should be keeping it up any way to control...

    Grape shot

The grape shot used in artillery pieces was made using a wooden core and base heres a quote from a web site "A stand of grape in the 1700's consisted of a wooden disk at the base of a short wooden rod that served as the core around which the balls stood. The whole assembly was bagged in cloth...

    Barrel's Brightness

On my previous gun we artificially aged it using some things you really don't want to know. On my new gun I'm letting the metal aged naturally like Musketeer said. Tristyn J Cramer A.K.A Red Leggins Guerre Abenakis
