Any reason not to cone a pistol muzzle?

I coned my .45 cal Kentucky rifle and think it’d be handy to do the same to the Pedersoli Kentucky pistol that I have. It’s a 10 inch barrel. I assume if I do this then I won’t need a short starter at the range then? Any issues someone wouldn’t want to cone here? Thank you!

    Blood lead levels at 5.0ug/ml

Thought it’d be interesting to share. Over the summer / spring without any smelting, I go to a local outdoor range and shoot for about 5 hours every weekend. A flintlock is all I shoot. I’ve done some tinkering like cone the barrel, but that’s all. I’d say over 4 months I shot 100 round ball...

    Assessing crown / barrel wear

I’ve made a few range visits with a pretty new flintlock and think my ramrod has been a bit abrasive on the crown. It’s made of fiberglass and I’ll be switching back to wood. I’ll also work on improving my reloading practices since the wear is on one side across from my reloading hand. This is...

Should I reach out to builder or adjust at home? Gap between lock and barrel

Hey everyone, I’m very new to flintlocks. I have my first one. When the lock is on, up towards the front it is touching the barrel, but towards the rear there is a gap. I’m not sure if the lock is cast a little unevenly but it at least appears that there is a gap growing between the lock and...

New flintlock arrived: Signs of frizzen rebound?

Hey everyone, I received a flintlock back from a known popular builder after an 18 months wait or so. At the front of the jaws there was an ever slight polish that was small enough to over look on arrival, after a couple dry fires it’s slightly more pronounced. After every dry fire, the...

Where to go for a rifled 4 bore wall gun barrel?

Hi everyone, I’d like to build a wall gun. Something like the Rifle Shoppe’s British wall gun - only difference being a rifled barrel. Do folks have any suggestions of where to go to procure a barrel? Apologies if this is a newbie question, but maybe Rice does custom barrels. Thank You

Is there a specific builder to look for at Dixon Gunbuilder’s Fair?

Hi all, I’m brand new to muzzleloading and am curious about Dixon’s gun maker’s fair. Is it a place where someone could find those nationally renowned / prolific custom gun makers? If someone were going to look for a high quality period correct early Virginia rifle, would this be the ideal...

Please help me "design" a TVM Early Virginia Rifle

Hi everyone, I hope all is well. Apologies as I am brand new to the site, and I hope to give no illusion that I know much about flintlocks. I would like to order my first flintlock and after considering options and price I have decided to choose tennessee valley muzzleloading. I plan to use the...
