Flint works loose after multiple shots

The leather looks thick. I find it works best with thin flexible leather. Don

    Acra glas solvent/thinner

Thanks Dave. I am going to use this on a build with Black Walnut my father cut. from a tree by our house 40 years ago. Been saving a couple pieces for stocks. It does not seem as dense as I would like so this will strengthen the forward end of the stock. Don

    Hawken

Maybe built by a maker of note but I have seen better finished metal parts for less $. It has handling/use marks on the stock. The inletting if nice but again for the $ it should be near perfect. Overpriced for me. Don

    Ramrod question...

I use a range rod when able to. My ramrods get a brass ring on the end. You can find a suitable sized brass cartridge case, usually 9 mm, 380, 38 spec or 40 as the rod is sized. They drive on the end with a dab of super glue. Keep it from splitting, though I have never split one. I think it...

    I found 5 of Dad's C&B Revolvers...

I got tired of looking for a nipple wrench so I used the "Shotgun" approach. I bought 4 of the ratcheting wrench sets and put them on the bench, in the tool box, in the shooting bag and left one on the loading bench. Now I have one when I need it !! Don

    Grandpa stories

Never got to know either set of Grandparents other than my Dad's mom. She came over from Sweden in 1903. She died at almost 100 when I had just gone to CA from NY. My wife was an Air Force officer she was stationed at Mather AFB in Sacramento. Grandma could cook ! Remember the pies and cinnamon...

    Flints

I too have a tile saw. The diamond blade cuts flint/agate easily. Bought some agate and cut some to try. They work, got 20 shots from one of them. They are ugly and I have to work on the geometry more but the experiment was successful. Use the saw to remove humps and resharpen the flints as...

What's the consensus on Kibler rifles Steel finish?

Degreased, 2 coats of cold blue scrubbed in with a 3M pad, heated with a heat gun. Scrubbed back to gray after. Holds up well to 3 years of use. Don

"Gun locks, gun locks? We don't need no stinkin' gun locks!"

These are mine. Need to get a video of shooting them. 1" bore, barrels around 30" long. My Dad made these in 1973. He machined the barrels and built the carriages including the wheels. Both have been used a lot. The Police Dept. back at home used to borrow them for their annual cook out. Don

Goex. Is it still being made in 2024

Minimal. Made the price a deal. Shipping / Handling $60. So $6 per pound spread over 10 lbs. Beats others. Don

Custom cut barrel channels and stock blanks

I have had a barrel inlet recently by Trapper Bill and his work is very good. I met and talked with him a couple times. He showed me his process and the work was turned around quickly. Very friendly and offered any additional help I needed building the rifle. He and his family has been...

    HOW RURAL IS RURAL?

The hill side is mine for now. Worked for, paid in full, and now improved. My descendants can get their own when the coroner removes my body from the land. I am old and crotchety but love my family who are all successful in their own right. Don

    HOW RURAL IS RURAL?

Started rebuilding the farm house on 25 acres we own this week. Have taken a deer or passed on a shot, for the last 5 years 50 ft from the back door. We own a hillside, steep in some places but perfect for us. Nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away but any others are out of sight. Never thought I...
