    San Diego Late M/L doe

Hi Jim, excellent story thanks for sharing. I could use some of your faith after my disappointing season in Wisconsin. Glad to see things were at least a little dryer than the Medicine Bow Mountains were. Keep at it and keep writing. Wink

90 grs. Too much for Renegade?

I recently found that the combination of 100 gr of Goex FFFG with .530 ball,.015 patch and OP wad gives me the best combination of accuracy and down range energy. I consistently get about a 2" group at 50 yards. I have a 54 Renegade. Wink

What is your tried and proven 54 Prb Elk Load?

All the loads described so far are pretty stout with plenty of powder being used. Does one ever reach the point of diminishing returns where the amount of powder used isn't being burned compeletly? And how does one know when that point is reached?

What is your tried and proven 54 Prb Elk Load?

Ok, No speculation or should be plenty enough. For those of you that have taken Elk with a 54 prb load, what was your load, at what distance was the animal, and what were the effects? I mean no disrespect to the many knowledgeable shooters out there, but its only by sharing true results or...

    Best muzzleloading bullet WMC .50

I've found that the fast twist of the WMC makes it a challenge to find a consistent and accurate load that I can be confident with. I hate to admit it, especially on this forum, but the load I've settled on for my 50 WMC is a 348 grain Power Belt with 80 gr of Goex FFF. :surrender:

    TC White Mountian Carbine

I still own one that I bought new in 1994. It has the 1 in 20 twist. I currently use a 348 gr powerbelt (yeah I know what some might say, mybad)with 80gr of fff goex. Its deadly and accurate on thin skinned lightly boned animals like whitetail.

What kind of muzzle velocity and energy can one expect with 80 gr of FFF and a PRB?

This might sound silly but I'm from out of state. Why is 4th season Rifle for Elk a limited draw in Colorado?

    Back Country Hunters, Water Question

For you Back Country and Wilderness area hunters, what do you do if anything to purify water? I've been looking at the various pumps and filters along with water purification tablets, and there seems to be quite a variety on the market. I was kind of looking at the tablets but wonder about the...

    Keeping Meat Cool

I dont think that I'm actually going to get an Elk, but I should still be prepared. My question is " How do you keep your meat cool once you pack your elk out to the trailhead, and keep it cool for the trip home?" In my case Wisconsin. I was thinking of Keeping some large coolers stashed in my...

Caps not going off on first hammerfall

I had the same problem with caps fitting too tight on the nipple. First hammer would seat the nipple next time it would go off. A Rat-tail file to the sides of the nipple took care of the problem. Just a few strokes at a time and dont take off too much.

Who's killed an elk with a round ball?

I presently shoot a TC 54 Renegade with a .015 patch and an OP Wad. Does anyone use a similar or different patch for this gun?

Who's killed an elk with a round ball?

I've noticed that a lot of you guys use thicker patches.018 and up. Does a thicker patch noticably increase velocity?

Who's killed an elk with a round ball?

Please everyone continue to share your expeiences.I'm really undecided on an Elk Load since I've never hunted Elk before but I am in the planning stages for my first Elk hunt. Presently I shoot a .530 ball with a.015 patch and an OP wad pushed by 90 grains of FFF goex. I'm wondering if I should...
