Info on selling revolver from Canada to US?

I've done some more checking and found the following - posting it here for anyone else. There's no problem selling south, but you pretty much have to use a company/broker with the necessary US Federal Firearms License to comply with US laws. The only one I found with an office near me in...

Info on selling revolver from Canada to US?

Thinking seriously about selling my 2nd generation Dragoon and wondering if anyone out there has information on Canada to US cross-border selling/shipping? I'll be doing my own checking but your experience would give me a starting point. Jamie

    Cleaning up the revolver

+1 on Duelist. Great videos, walks you right through the whole procedure.

    Which powders for revolvers?

I don't have a lot of experience (yet) but I used FFg in my Dragoon, just because I have it for my flintlock. It worked just fine - I've got operator problems to work out before I worry about my powder!

    Colt’s Dragoons!?

FWIW, I have a 2nd generation 3rd Model that is a joy to use. Everything works smoothly, the cylinder revolves perfectly with no rubbing. Maybe I got lucky or maybe you were unlucky, but I'd buy another 2nd gen. in a heartbeat.

Practice with a Repro Navy Colt

I found a pair of Mike Beliveau U-tube videos that show the disassembly and cleaning of Colt cap and ball revolvers, including the right screwdriver sizes. I followed them in cleaning my dragoon, made it downright easy. Go to to see the first.

    Got lucky...

Thanks. I don't use the brush as a brush, but only to get a patch into the narrow/tapered chamber by wrapping the patch around the brush with a long nose sticking out ahead. Works pretty well as a rule.

    Got lucky...

After shooting my Lyman trade rifle on the weekend, I was using a small tapered brush with a patch wrapped around it to clean the narrow "patent" chamber. The brass end of the rod slipped off leaving the brush and the end stuck down the barrel. (I've seen warnings on the forum about this, but...

Cleaning Uberti 1861 Navy percussion revolver question

Go to and see a two part video of cleaning a Colt Navy 1851. I followed this for my Dragoon, and it was a great guide. I had it on screen as I worked, pausing it while I did each step. I took it completely apart, never had any experience with doing this but the video made it pretty easy.

New Colt and a lube question

Yeah, I see a lot of recommendations for bore butter on the interweb, think I'll try it. Thanks everyone. Jamie

New Colt and a lube question

DoubleDeuce1, maybe I should add that I was using FFg, that might have contributed to the fouling. DoubleDeuce1 and tac, you both seem to be getting great results. I did not put any grease over the balls, but used Wonderwads which I've seen recommended. If you've been shooting cap and ball...

New Colt and a lube question

Thanks guys, if what I'm getting is normal then I am okay with it. I'd read or heard of range sessions of 30 shots and thought I must be doing it wrong. No problem with a quick cleaning, I took the cylinder out to reload anyway. I found it hard to do anything with the gun together, guess...

New Colt and a lube question

Took my new-to-me 2nd gen. Dragoon out today for the first time, had a ball. I was using 40 grain loads with round ball, thought there might be some serious recoil but the weight of the gun pretty well soaked it up. Shooting at only 15 yds or so, found it was hitting about 6" high, as I...

    lyman question

I bought a trade rifle sight unseen three years ago, it is well put together, no cracks or gaps, shot well right out of the box. I'd buy another tomorrow. Jamie

    Muzzle UP or Muzzle DOWN?

What were they doing with loaded guns behind the firing line? Oh, yeah - "how little some people know..." Better to have holes in the roof than ricochets off the concrete floor I guess. Jamie

    Colt Colt (?) Dragoon

I have the same revolver, there's a spring clip on the wedge that has to be pressed down to start the wedge. I use the edge of a key usually. Then pull the wedge out as far as it will go, it doesn't come all the way, probably due to the spring, but doesn't have to to get the barrel off. Jamie

    screwdriver sizes for Uberti 1862

For what it's worth, I was watching a youtube video on cleaning cap and ball revolvers, and the sizes recommended to completely take apart the gun were: 180-3 240-4 340-4 These are tips only to go into a hexagonal screwdriver shaft and cost about $3 each. I ordered from Brownells on-line. I...

I’ve lost two rear barrel pins..

Go to https://www.lymanproducts.com/media/catalog/product/g/r/great_plains_rifle_and_hunter_p1.pdf and scroll down to the page on fitting wedge pins, it's about 3/4 way through the guide. You'll see it recommends (carefully) tapping the barrel lug by tapping the top of the lug using a 1" bar...
