After several months of Chemotherapy and Radiation, old TwoShadows is able to lurk around the forum again. "Feelie Box"

Anybody out ever use a feelie box in their shooting matches? Maybe a description is needed. I usually turn a wooden box sideways until the open side is on one side of the box. I cover this with a piece of cloth. Another way is to place the box slightly above head height(so folks cant see inside...

    Fire starting "kit"

For those of you that shoot the matches where fire starting is required....please describe what you have in it and unusual methods of fire starting you have encountered. I have refined mine a lot over the years. I know it probably isn't perfect, so I constantly look for improvements and new...

    coloring a powderhorn

I have only one source left for potassium permanganate. Just finished a new horn and am wanting to get that nice yellowish, orangish color that is so popular right now. I know the potassium permanganate will do the job, but the amount available and price is kinda prohibitive. I've tried rit...

    To stop the rusting process

I like to warm the parts I have rusted/browned by warming the metal enough to melt beeswax rubbed over it. This imediately stops the rusting as it forms an airtight surface. It also imparts a nice dark color to the browning that can't quite be achieved with oil. Any excess or too much buildup...

    Back to the cold

The Alafia Rendezvous in Florida is over for another year. Sure was hard to face the 17 degree weather here this morning after the 80 degrees there as we pulled out for Kentucky. Got to howdy and shake with Wick Ellerbe that posts here pretty regularly. I knew from reading his posts that he was...

    questions on priming

Fellow flinters, I believe I have a stimulating question that will be sure to generate plenty of opinions: For fastest ignition time should a rifle be primed with 4f or 5f out of a priming horn, or primed from the shooting horn? I'm not looking for the amount of powder in the pan. Nor am I...

    receipe for a squirel dish

Using old, tough squirrls instead of feeding them to the dogs can be accomplished by following the instructions below to achieve a pretty good meal. Boil your old squirrels in lightly salted water until the meat will fall off the bone. Pick all the bones out and discard them. reserve the meat...

Virgin wool ? blanket owners want to know..

I know virgin wool blankets cost more....so much for the old adage about the wages of sin..O K, so the moral standards of sheep affect the price of wool, but who verify's this virginity? Do the "wooly fuzz" conduct inspections? Is this considered "profilling"? If a little lamb is concieved...

    CVA Hawkin .50 cal Pistol

If you still want to remove the barrel, first remove the ramrod. A light tap on the pin on the side away from the head of the pin should loosen it. Do this with a wood or rubber or plastic mallet. The tang screw is the only other place the barrel is held. A little pitting inside the barrel won't...

    Introduction and self aggrandizement

I suppose this had best get done and over with...don't like blowing my own horn, but here it goes. This makes over 40 years of running around in skins and period attire. I started here in Southern Kentucky running with the likes of Hershel and Frank House...I was at author Ted Franklin Belue's...
