    Non - Tapered Barrels

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the untapered barrel, my 46" TVM has been swinging on ruffed grouse successfully all season, 13 and counting and 4 snowshoe hare on the side, no dogs, just lots of walking, weight isn't an issue. I've added a little lead behind the buttplate, balance is...

    TVM Bore diameter

The 20 bore Colerain barrel on my fusil from TVM mics at exactly .615, a true 20 ga. I use a .595 Lee mold which produces balls pretty close to .60 with a wonderlubed .015 patch, I can shoot for an hour straight at the range with that load with no wiping.

What length barrel do you prefer?

Before last year I've never even owned a firearm, so was not used to holding ANY length of barrel. I've always had an eye for the longer barrels on a flintlock so opted for a 46" barrel with a 14 1/4" LOP for my first, fairly hefty. I can honestly say after a year of carrying and shooting...

    No Buck

Thanks all, much appreciated, I'm happy to have people I can share this with! Hopefully I'll have a buck for you all in the coming weeks! As for the gun, she's beautiful and I'm definitely attached, TVM was great and had no problem when I asked about getting the 46" Colerain, they delivered a...

    No Buck

But definitely just as exciting, considering this guy is my first! This fella didn't get 2 beats off the ground about 20 yards through heavy brush, before I rolled him flat. I was smiling ear to ear when I walked through the smoke to see him, that smoke hangs heavy on a calm foggy morning, I...

    Shot or Ball most common?

Grandpa Ron, I have an article that will be of interest to you and others concerning shot and ball as well as other topics relating to 18th century hunting, titled Hunting, Trapping and Fowling in Eighteenth-Century Connecticut . It is by Ross Harper and his observations of the archaeological...

    My Tulle is done

Sorry for my late response, I had been away. Curt, thank you, I actually like to think of it as a French fowler, and that will be no problem! Don, I did not have to pay any customs or any extra fees other than the base shipping plus my upgraded box, which was a lot cheaper than I had expected...

    My Tulle is done

Alden, your the only one making an issue of this, I have ZERO complaints about the shipping of the gun, or with TVM as they made NO promises regarding arrival. It was shipped the 16th and will arrive tomorrow making it 13 days, not 17, and during the Holidays to boot - I think that's completely...

    My Tulle is done

Alden, a large portion of the bigger parcels I've had come to my door were delivered by Purolator, I'm just assuming the same will happen this time. It started out with USPS on your side of the border, was handed over Canada Post in Hamilton and was picked up by Purolator as per the tracking...

    My Tulle is done

Alden, it will be arriving through Purolator, as they are owned by Canada Post and serve as their parcel delivery branch.

    My Tulle is done

Unfortunately, it arrived a bit too late and is sitting in the post office. Canada Post is busy this time of year I suppose, "tis the season". I'm not upset though, it will be here Monday along with all my supplies, that's good enough for me  Henry - Thanks for the comments, that's...

    New barrel protectant

I had to do exactly that Tom, go right through Amazon for the Barricade, but won't arrive till after Christmas. I wasn't happy to find TOW can't ship that stuff to Canada, but they can RIG Grease, which I ordered along with my jags and some other supplies which will hopefully be here the first...

    My Tulle is done

Thanks all, happy to see so many like it as much as I do! Proud to call it my first flintlock, but just itching to have it in my hands! This shipping thing is stressful :haha: My plans for this big fella will be lots of range time to get used to it and the pan flash, then nail down some loads...

    My Tulle is done

So Friday I received an email and a couple of photos from TVM letting me know my Tulle is done and should be here this coming week. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out, of course the true verdict will be when its in my hands, but darn it looks purdy. The wait now is worse than...

    Smoothbores in the Colonies

This thread reminds me of something Nicolas Denys wrote in 1672 in his "Description and Natural History of The Coasts of North America (Acadia)" of black birch used as stocks, to whomever it may interest. "The Black Birch [Mignogon in Micmac] is a kind of Birch, but its wood is redder. From it...

    New barrel protectant

This is true necchi, as I have been reading the forums for atleast 2 years now, and have been registered for over a year. The forums have been a wonderful wealth of information for me, and still is whether one posts or not. Alden, sorry if you've been offended, I'm not here to argue. My...

    New barrel protectant

No embarrassment Alden, it's just always you bring up the same issue (even in the first posts of my other thread) without evening offering answers to my original question, which has nothing to do with your experience with TVM. That's all. No hurt feelings. Everyone's suggestions are much...

    New barrel protectant

Thanks Dave, that's very kind of you and I may take you up on that offer. I'm envious of your son learning from such a young age! He sounds like a great shot, surely he had a great teacher  As for the brake fluid, I plan to avoid, I went ahead and ordered some barricade and ballistol...

    New barrel protectant

Thanks smokin, great advice, something I will put to practice. Seems everyone has their own idea of what's the best, I will have to experiment and see what works best for my gun.
