    How to fix cast brass?

No idea. I'm building this rifle for a friend of mine who got a collection of different parts, started the gun and never finished it. No clue where the butt plate came from, what it was made from - but I do assume it was sand cast as he is usually a frugal guy. I did buy a new butt to replace...

White Lightn'n vent on a GPR?

I have received the 1/4 inch white lightn'n vent liner (and drill/tap) but have not had time to install. I have no intensions of unbreeching the barrel either. No reason to. I'm just going to drill into the chamber, cut the countersink, tap, lube, install and redrill the vent hole to 5/64th...

    Tight fitting barrel

If the barrel is straight (no taper at all) you can wrap a piece of 200 grit sandpaper around a section of the barrel (I would use the breech end but it does not matter if there is no taper) and us that to open up the barrel channel. GO SLOW. You likely will only need to make a couple passes...

    How to fix cast brass?

The other night I stole off to my shop to try and get in an hour of work between when the kids went to bed and when I needed to go to bed. Ended up dropping a cast brass buttplate that was 3/4 of the way inlet. Of course it factured. it did not break, but the bottom inch of the plate is bent...

Butt plates, for sure. But when they are done it is really satisfying! Zach

White Lightn'n vent on a GPR?

The vents Track sells under the name White Lightning are different from the White Lightning vents thta come with Chambers rifle kits? Zach

Range Rod length relative to barrel length

I preferr to make Delrin "range" rods. I said that in quotes as the rammer for my GPR, the one I keep in the gun at all times, is one I made from 3/8 delrin rod. No fancy handel. Just a pinned ramrod end on one end with a jag screwed on. Been using it for years and the hickory rammer just...

White Lightn'n vent on a GPR?

Has anyone ever put a White Lightn'n vent on a Lyman Great Plains Rifle? I have gotten used to the bombproof lock time and ignition on my Chambers gun. It ALWAYS goes bang. (knocking on wood) I have never had my Lancaster fail to fire when the pan flashed, and there has never been a noticable...

    Companies making kits

My only complaint to the Chambers kits is that even for guns using a 3/8 inch rammer, they are bored for a 5/16th rammer. This goes for the bore down the stock and the thimbles. This was not an issue for me as I prefer formed thimbles rather then cast, and so replaced the Chambers kit thimbles...

    Companies making kits

Don't forget Chambers! When I started I built a Lyman kit gun and then a Chambers parts kit. I agree with Dave's notion that the Lyman is more "in the white." Everything fit out of the box, all you needed to do was sand and stain. I put about 40 hours into my Lyman, but I did extra stuff to...

How did you get into the BP Sport and why choose Flintlocks

Got hooked reenacting American Revolution in 1996. All started from there. Zach

    Dark stain options

I ave used the AF from Track a few times now, and have always gotten a reddish brown color . I always use a heat gun to kick it off. And I don't go heavy on the AF. Just enough to cover the wood. Finish with boiled linseed oil.

    Flintlock kit

If you buy it as a kit, you can brown all the furniture. IMO they make a great starter gun to see if you like building them. Especially if you upgrade the lock to an L&R (which takes a little inletting). You also get practice browning the lock, barrel, hardware, etc. You can do it all in a...

    Birdseye maple for fullstock?

I have the option to pick up a slab of Birdseye maple from a friend and there may be enough to make a smaller fullstock or a half stock. Was Birdseye ever used? I know tiger stripe was preferred, and I've never seen Birdseye used. But I bet it would be pretty. Zach

correct way to inlet barrel keys

I'm building a southern rifle. In my lancaster rifle I used pins. I love keys, but I have no idea how to go about measuring and drilling to make a key slot that perfectly fits the barrel staple. I'm very temped to just use pins, but I'd like to know how to do the keys. Zach

    Big Game Failures?

Early ML season in PA this year. Second Saturday. Been scouting the area for a few months, I knew there was a spike buck and a few doe. I had seen the spike the first weekend, and just watched him feed. Second saturday, nice doe walks into my zone, 20 yards from me - right where I knew they...

    Gun left loaded

I have gotten a lot of use out of my CO2 ejector. At club shoots - someone will dryball, and its nice to be able to help them out quickly. And, as stated, I use it after a day of hunting. I drill out all my touchholes to 5/64ths, and have never had an issue. In fact, I have never had a...

Picked up a GPR; and got a question

Yes. Filing the front down will raise POI. However, the GPR front sight generally sits too tall and needs to be filed. I had to do the same with mine - and its suggested in the directions. Zach
